Dorm closures during breaks

In looking over the academic calendar, noticed a lot of breaks during the school year.

Do dorms close over breaks?

Are there any options offered for kids who cannot get home, either due to logistics or financnces?

This would seem to be problematic for international students, much less kids coming from far away.

Dorms closed over Thanksgiving, Winter, and Spring Break. When I was there, some of the on-campus apartments stayed open over breaks. Not sure if this is still true. In my experience, people who can’t go home often go home with friends who are more local. I know the school also helps set something up if you can’t get home, but nobody I knew actually did this. All just stayed with friends or in someone’s apartment.

Hey there Montegut and Sigka!

This year, the dorms are only closed during Spring and Winter breaks, but a few of the apartment-style buildings remained open. The University has discounted hotel options for students who can’t go home, but they also have a host family program for international students. Of course, I know people who live off-campus or nearby who are hosting friends during the holidays.

…I’m a current SLU student :)

So people can stay over in the dorm during Thanksgiving?

Most definitely-- the RA’s will still be there!
