Dorm Crew vs. FUP

Does anyone have to decide between waiting for a decision from FUP or taking a dorm crew spot? I have to confirm my spot with dorm crew by midnight tomorrow. I kinda want to participate in FUP because of all the nonprofit volunteering stuff. Making money with dorm crew is appealing but I really don't feel like cleaning bathrooms. Plus, I feel like I could learn and grow from FUP. Anyone has any advice for either program?

Do you know exactly when FUP is releasing their decision? I know we will find out by the end of the month.

If you accept to Dorm Crew, will your application automatically be not looked at for FUP? If they are separate, then why can't you accept to Dorm Crew, and if you get into FUP, tell them you don't want to go. Or is that not allowed?

I hate how the pre-orientation programs are like reapplying to school. We got in, we should be able to do any of them!

My D was just too swamped to apply to FUP plus she said she wanted to stay home as long as possible with us before heading to college. Hard to argue with that.

FUP is amazing. Yes, you can do what easonh89 suggested. Your FUP application has nothing to do with Dorm Crew. If you get accepted to FUP, decline Dorm Crew at that point. They will have a waiting list and others will be happy to take your spot. Good luck!

just to clarify, if we have confirm with dorm crew, can we still decline it when we get into FUP?

Yes, you can. Just do it promptly when you find out so that someone else can take your place.

Yes, I know people on the dorm crew waiting list! you can decline even if you accept, they have enough eager freshman waiting to clean bathrooms =)

I know a lot of my friends did FUP. One is actually a counselor! It's a really meaningful experience, and the FUPpies that I know were able to consider the implications of social justice and what that entails. In addition, you get to "walk the city," where you basically tour Boston by walking around for eight hours straight. Hard on the feet, but totally worth it.

I did dorm crew. Couldn't say no to $360! The evening activities are worth it though. They try to create camaderie, and by the end of the week, I basically knew where everything was on campus.

I'm one of those eager freshmen waiting to clean bathrooms! Hopefully they won't take too long to respond with a definitive answer.
