Anyone have comments about dorm fridge rental from HiGene? (The company that sent the notice out through UPenn)
The larger fridge they offer is appealing because it has an auto-defrosting freezer. A similar model costs >$200, and wed also have to figure out what to do with it at the end of the year.
General comments in Pennster about rentals have not been favorable. Advice on the 2 door fridge from HiGene would be appreciated.

I was wondering that myself. I went online to order Option #1 (w/microwave), but it's not available online, as of yet.
You really heard bad reveiws on this? Please let me know. I don't see any other way of getting around it. I would prefer not to buy one.

hi, all...i heard bad reviews, too...about renting the micro/fridge/freezer (i'm not sure if that's what y'all are talking about though)

my mom and i figured it out, though, that buying one now and using it for 4 years is much more economical than renting for all four; i'm buying the micro and my roommate's buying the fridge/freezer...just a suggestion, though

and i heard you can split a big storage room w/a bunch of friends, so you don't really have to worry over the summer

Yeah, it'd be a lot more practical to just buy a microfridge or a minifridge and microwave! The downside about a microfridge is that if it breaks down, both the microwave and fridge break down too, so it'd be better to get them seperately and actually cheaper too!

It makes sense to buy rather than rent a microwave there are better models than the rental one available inexpensively.
However its possible to rent the fridge separately. It seems unlikely that well need a fridge for all four years most people eventually move to a hi-rise or off-campus, where it would be superfluous. And the two-door rental model is described as auto-defrost which is a big advantage, if youve ever defrosted one of those across-the-top freezers. The rental cost for a year is less than half of buying a 2 door manual defrost at Walmart, and to buy it there you'd have to special order it and transport it to campus. So Id really be interested to hear what experience others have had with renting this type of unit.
