Is the microwave/fridge/freezer combo even worth it? Would it be a better idea to just buy the fridge and microwave seperately somewhere else, so you could use them from year to year without the hefty annual $212 fee?

I'm planning on about 2 meals per day as far as meal plans go... I wouldn't be relying on this stuff for survival. Still, I was hoping for some advice from people who have already experienced the joys of dorm life before making the decision... :D

benefit of owning your own fridge and microwave depend on how far away you live from campus - summer storage and transportation factors have to be considered.

some people want to have bigger fridges than what's provided, too...

was able to buy a better fridge and better microwave from costco for about 120 total. If you can drive to campus, owning may be easier, but if you have to fly, storage can be a PITA

Trying to store with someone like CollegeBoxes (the company most students use for household item/clothing storage) is going to be very expensive for a refrigerator/microwave - probably more than the cost of the thing. If you go in with a friend on a storage unit at a local storage place, you may be able to bring the cost down quite a bit by putting all your stuff there (I did that last summer). If you end up joining a greek house or moving off campus, you may be able to use that place for (relatively) cheaper storage. However, you're probably best off renting and sharing the cost with your roommate this year. You don't know where you'll live next year, and many places that upperclassmen live (highrises, some apartments) already come furnished with those kinds of items.
