Dorm internet

Yeah the internet is ridiculously fast. My PS3 would download a whole 200mb system update in like 15 seconds.

As for illegal download, supposedly they stopped monitoring them this year, but that of course was a small article in the Daily Bruin…not worth risking it. I must admit, I have used torrents a couple times last year and got away scotch free. As for Megaupload, I’m almost positive that one is fine. Almost everyone I know used Megaupload to watch movies all last year many many times.

But honestly, the way I saw it was it’s better to use wireless and use the lounge hub. I felt that at least that way they would have a hard time tracking who it was that was downloading since they wouldn’t be able to exactly pinpoint a land wire.

what type of Ethernet cable should one get for dorm room internet?

I think regular cat 5e cables would be fine. It can support speeds up to 1000 megabits per sec (or 1 gigabit/sec).

but you have to log into the wireless with your UCLA BOL ID, or through UCLA VPN…

Exactly, meaning you can be tracked regardless, lol.
