Sorry for the double post, but I couldn’t find the edit button(which is sometimes there…?)

I called their Housing office and I’m #32 on the waiting list. She said if you’re number 1-25 then it’s pretty set you will get a spot. But, I should call at the end of the week or next week to see if I moved up on the list.

pretty simple for the roommate selction. you can search around and send people messages about rooming together. i would suggest talking to people because the profiles dont give good information about who you will be living with. and then you guys can work together of finding out what room you would want. For me; ill be back in parkside H!

As for the waitlist, i cant help you guys with that, to be honest i didnt even know enough people apply to warrant a waitlist.

Got wait listed too

Thanks for replying back @EliteToast ^^

Anyways, I hope 32 people leave housing…lol

Picking roommates is a little confusing for me because I got waitlisted, yet I can still pick out a roommate? Also, I thought people in I-House get foreign roommates? My other friend can still pick her roommate even though she applied for I-house? Or maybe it’s low-key “foreign”

Gah, idk. I’ll just be waiting~ ^^

I-House is where many foreign students go but its not strictly internationals there. A study abroad student from Ireland moved into my suite in Parkside this semester, so they really go wherever. (he also ended up becoming a great friend) so if you want the experience of being with alot of internationals then you may want I-House. However I-House may be the least social of all the houses, because in my experience alot of internationals hang out as a group so unless you are in that group you may not be talking to many people.

As for your friend choosing their roommate in I-House, yes they can pick a roommate since I-House in not strictly Internationals.

Hope this post made sense.

Actually I was accepted into the International House last week and the housing department made it very clear that I should not accept or request a roommate via the online roommate selection system. They said that they will place an international student in a room with you and will chose which room you get in the house. However, you could send an email stating some preferences for them to consider.

do u have to pick i house as ur first choice if ur a intl student??

@EliteToast: I have several questions, if you don’t mind. If we don’t pick a roommate, can we still pick a room? Also, I’m kindof confused since, when do we know what dorm we got into? It should be before we get to pick a room?? By room do they mean dorm or a room inside a dorm? O.o

I just got confirmed for housing so yayy~

@pimpkinpiee: no you dont.

@sillyxnilly:
1-you can absolutely still pick a room without a roommate.
2-pretty much, the only reason they ask you for your preference, is if you dont pick a room at all and you let them pick for you. the preference is honestly useless if you choose yourself. for example:you could have put hillside as your last choice, but nothing is stopping you from choosing a room from hillside when room selection opens. the room selection is one of the things i feel long beach really got right, but they wouldnt be able to do this sort of personal selection at a much larger housing facility like at other schools.
3-by room they definitely mean a room inside a dorm.

what is going to happen is they will soon post a little layout of each building telling you where each room is located and from there you can make your decision. if you have any questions let me know, its a little overwhelming at first but its really quite simple.

oh, and parkside H is where its at!

I some more questions too lol which dorms are nicer, parkside or hillside? like is one obviously older and smaller? Do you know which dorms are more social? I know that parkside doesn’t have a common room so do people not really socialize with the floor mates? I want to stay where it’s fun and social, I am not one who hangs out in the quiet places!

Really theyre all about the same in terms of quality. I know J building is getting remodeled this summer i believe.
And actually yes, parkside has common rooms. Each building has its own common room and the central office is a coffee shop as well. Unless you are referring to the common rooms inside the suites at hillside, which in that case they really arent much of common rooms. I believe there is a refrigerator and a sink and a couch but no one really goes to those to socialize.
as for if any are more fun and social than others i would say stay away from I-house and beachside. in the end though i really think it depends what mix of people you get at your individual building. I personally have enjoyed parkside because its not as cluttered like hillside is and its honestly just a great time there. (also getting our new dining hall in October)

I will be staying in Parkside H again since a group of my friends are all going to continue next year.

@EliteToast Do you have any tips on picking a room?? I just got to see the room layouts and stuff ^^ 2nd floor or 1st floor better?? I really don’t like sunlight…so I shouldn’t pick one with a window(or do they all have windows ? lol)

there are certain rooms in the suites that wont have direct sunlight, at least the way my building was facing. In the parkside H(and all buildings facing the same direction which is north-south) these would be the rooms directly across from the suite door (and a little to the right or left). its hard to convey over the internet but thats the best explanation i could give. for reference, the sun will rise by the pyramid and set over bellflower blv. So if sun is the big issue pick rooms pointing away from those sides.

other than that i really dont have much advice for picking rooms, it really is which area you want to be in and then which building.

@sillyxnilly where did you get to see the room layouts??

@BonsaiTrees They sent me the link in an email.

Parkside K is where its atttt. Whoop whoop!

I need advice Dx I don’t know if I should pick Hillside or Parkside…

I like Hillside’s common room with the microwave and fridge.

I like that Parkside is social, but I’m not super social myself. I like being with people though…

Plus, Parkside seems really far from the classrooms. i also saw there are more people in a suite with Parkside… 14 ppl &one large bathroom vs. 11 ppl&two bathrooms…

Right now, I’ve pick a Hillside buildin, but I’m still not decided…

ANY ADVICEEEE? Like maybe what kindof people are at Parkside or Hillside??

@sillyxnilly I have the exact same problem I can’t decide between hillside or parkside!

need advice? parkside gets the new dining hall in october. plus the walk maybe increases by only a couple minutes from parkside.

@EliteToast Hope you don’t mind my picky-ness but what about the rooms? 14 to a suite seems really small to me. It doesn’t have the common room with the fridge and the microwave either?? >_<
