Dorm or Apartment?

I cannot decide whether or not to dorm for at least a year or just rent an apartment all four years.

I have been looking for apartments and if I do decide to rent an apartment it would most likely be one of these: Isla Vista California Apartments - Home - Capri Apartments

How are the dorm rooms at UC Santa Barbara?

sometimes i wish i didn’t dorm. whatever is going on in the hallways or even upstairs can be heard. the building is very fragile. i can even hear people in the room above me when they’re having parties etc. too bad you can’t choose to live on the top floor to avoid the annoying footsteps from upstairs.

The reason I am leaning towards apartments more is the privacy and the ease of having friends visit.

What about theme housing?

Dorm dorm dorm. The dorms are the best opportunity to make lots of friends and find people to hang out with. Even if you have a bad experience with a roommate, I think ultimately the experience will be beneficial to you. Nicha, I sympathize with you, because I absolutely hated my roommate my first year on SB when I lived in Manzanita. But it taught me to be able to deal with someone I really didn’t like, and ultimately I think it helped me grow as a person.

If you a little more privacy, then I recommend living in Manzanita for the larger rooms, private bathrooms, and also the possibility of getting a single room. But I think that one of the most unique experiences in your life is living in a dorm, and I would not give that up even if there are some issues in your living arrangement.

hmm, yeah, if I do plan to dorm, I think I would pay extra for a single.

Does anyone know what the chances of me getting a single in Manzanita is?

i’m not sure. but a girl that lives in the single across from my room said that it was her first choice and she got it.

I’m gonna try to get a single, too.

Does anyone know if the Capri Apartments are near where most parties are?

I would say try out the dorms first, for a year or so. Make new friends, have some fun, and if after a year you really dislike it… then yeah, go get an apartment! But you really want to miss out on all the fun and experiences of dorming? At least try it out! At least you’ll have some experiences, whether good or bad. In a couple years, you might look back and appreciate it!
