Does anyone have any insight on the dorms at U Conn, we visited and the dorms seemed nice but they take you to a specific room. We are concerned about overcrowding. Does U conn have triples due to overcrowding.
DS is Freshman and we have not heard about overcrowding at all. He is in a learning community and in a double, and I recommend it for freshman. Dorms will vary depending on the location. DS has friends all over campus, but I think Towers has large freshman population and they are very far.
@magnetnh. Thanks for that info. Aren’t the learning communities in the towers or is that just for engg.
There are different learning communities in various dorms. You can find out more about them and their locations on the Uconn site.
My son is at a different university. I too was concerned about overcrowding and sure enough he ended up in a built up triple. I couldn’t imagine him living in such a small space with one roommate let alone two! However, it was great. He got two great roomies who I think will be life-long friends. All three guys were respectful of one another and it was great. Honestly, I think the small shared, somewhat uncomfortable space was good for him! My son needs to be a little more flexible and this was good for him.
Stony Brook said 90% of all freshmen will be tripled. 3 beds 2 dressers and 2 desks. I just don’t think that’s reasonable.
The housing situation has to play a role in your decision. Just what is one paying for? The 3rd person gets a raw deal with no desk or dresser.
