My daughter is seriously considering UNC and I have a couple of questions about the dorms. I read somewhere that all of the dorms will have ac beginning this fall. Can anyone confirm this? Also, I have read that Carmichael is the dorm of choice for athletes. Can anyone tell me about the relative noise level there, especially at night? Are there other dorms that also have a concentration of athletes? Last dorm question, which dorms are all central air? I have read that some dorms have some rooms with central ac and some with window units. My daughter has asthma and allergies and does much better with central air Thanks!

The comparison chart on this page helped me out a lot when deciding on housing:

[Residence Halls | UNC Chapel Hill Housing and Residential Education](http://housing.unc.edu/residence-halls)

Hope it does the same for you!
(I’m staying in Carmichael next year, by the way, so I can hopefully answer any questions about it in a few weeks)

All the dorms except Ehringhaus have A/C this year, though maybe that will change next year, who knows?

And since your daughter has asthma and allergies, she will get special priority, which means she will probably get into Carmichael as requested. ;)

Thank you! I don’t know how we missed that, quickly answers the question about ac. I’m looking forward to picking your brain when you get there, tarheel151. Best wishes to you on a smooth transition and an awesome freshman year!

Since your daughter has asthma & allergies, she’ll definitely get placed into a dorm with central AC. I do know that Carmichael has quite a few athletes in it, but I’m not sure if any other dorms are quite as concentrated - especially since the NCAA says you can’t have ‘athlete dorms’. I would have to say that the noise level depends on the year, and the residents there that year, especially the ones surrounding your room.

You are certainly welcome to ask any questions you want; I’m glad to help.
