Has anybody rented a mini-fridge down in Columbia for dorm room, and have recommendation?
Thanks in advance!

You could post question on housing FB page. Long ago (when I was student) the school rented out fridges, but I don’t think they do that anymore…you can probably buy one new for what rental was. Check your dorm - a few older dorms come with a microfridge provided. To buy you can get one when you get here from Walmart or Target or post on older student pages (Class of 2015, 16 etc) and ask if anyone who’s moving off campus has one to sell.

Don’t know about USC, but S1 starts at OU and they have them. The problem is that they are really cheap (less than 100) to buy one, so the rent would have to be VERY low to make it worthwhile.

They didn’t offer them to rent when I was a freshman or a sophomore (2011-2013), so I’d doubt they’d offer them now.

But the price to buy is less than $100 usually and if you’re worried about transporting, you could always buy local. (A lot of places also let you buy in one city, but pick it up in another city.)

I also agree with scmom12. There’s a group on Facebook called “Free & For Sell”. I would check there. https://www.facebook.com/groups/290573597688125/ (I think you have to be a member of the “Carolina” group, so you’d have to add a email.sc.edu account to your Facebook account.)

Thank you. Yeah, transport is a likely obstacle (might still work, but…)
Have looked at some Columbia rental places, and like you’ve said the rental price – usually lease to buy – was steeper than expected. Thanks again!

Definitely no reason to haul it with you. Target and Walmart and BB&B (not sure they carry fridges) all allow you to purchase online and pick up in any store. Do check the move-in guide because there are some size restrictions and check with future roommate. Maybe they live closer and can bring fridge and you can pay for other things.

Thanks, SCMom… looks like we got things set via roommate (had figured we’d buy locally before that)
