they have foam soap dispensers in the bathrooms. don’t buy soap unless you’re reaaallyy picky about what kind you use. hahahah

using bars of soap isn’t bad. and keep in mind that you’ll be there for like 9 months or something like that so you’ll have time to experiment with what works for you.

as for the bar soap thing, arent there like travel bar soap containers that they sell? ive seen them before. it’s like a box to put your soap in, it has holes on the bottom to release water. it doesnt seem too messy to me.

Yea I know hand sanitizer isn’t perfect, but it won’t hurt to have one in your dorm to use from time to time xD. If a person washes their hands more frequently than the average person, it’s still ok to use hand sanitizer a few time instead of running back and forth several times a day just to wash your hands. Iono, just a suggestion I threw out there haha. :)

Even if it does have holes at the bottom I imagine it would become a bit soggy. Still, I guess I’ll try it out.

And ew, people would seriously borrow another person’s soap?

Another question, what kind of storage containers should you buy to use in your dorm (double or triple)? I wanted to buy some the other day but didn’t know how much space would be available.

@ingridbergman,
if you go to the ucsd housing and dining website, they give you the dimensions of everything including the room, closet, bed, etc. for each room. so you can measure/plan it out :)

You don’t need to bring a chair or trashcan.

I bought a little travel toothbrush holder for my toothbrush and replaced it when it got gross. They have them for like 50 cents or a dollar in those bins at Target. Or at bed bath and beyond.

if you wanna use bar soap, leave it in a perforated/slotted soap holder (like a mesh one built into your shower caddy) so it doesn’t retain water and always bring it back to your room. but yes it’s nasty when you drop it

this is a very informative page telling you what is provided & what you should bring:

The dorm rooms are so tiny, you don’t really want a tv blocking your path in the middle of the room. Most people put them on the edges of the room by the window or on top of your fridge. But it really depends on the room itself/college

Some people bring big TVs for the suite common room as well

i’m sure you’ll be able to find a place to put it. it depends on how your room is set up, how much stuff you have, and how many (if any) roommates you have.

a lot of my friends actually put them on their desks (they have flat screens).
