Dorm room more expensive than expected

Hi everyone. I hope you guys can give me ur opinion on this. I just got my room assignment and I’m assigned to Myles Standish Hall. I was very excited, until I saw that the room is around $700 more than a regular double. My parents have refused to pay the extra. So what should I do? Should I ask BU to cover the difference or ask them for another room? HELP PLEASE!

"Should I ask BU to cover the difference..."

I'm sorry...but I had to chuckle a bit at the idea of asking BU to cover part of your housing.

I'm not sure what you're looking for anyone to say. The housing rates are clearly posted on the housing webiste (<a href="http://www.bu.edu/housing/living/rates/year2006-2007.html%5B/url%5D">http://www.bu.edu/housing/living/rates/year2006-2007.html</a>) and the rates for a double in a suite with a private bath are higher than the rates for a regular double. If you put Myles down as one of your top choices, it was really your responsibility to check what the cost was.

I doubt that there is much BU can do now...you can try giving them a call, but there's not likely going to be any place where they can put you. You can try borrowing the money from your parents and then working part time to pay them back for the first semester (which shouldn't be too hard to do) and then doing a room swap once you get on campus, but I'm not sure whether or not, though, that will reduce your second semester bill (you should check with housing on that).

out of 5 choices that we had to put down, myles was my choice #4. so i guess it was in the top five, but it wasnt exactly a "top" choice. and also, no matter what dorms one puts down on their survey, BU basically put you whereever they want to put you. and even Warren has singles, which would be more expensive. So, those types of thing, I could not really control.
