Dorm Room Security

A couple of quick questions:

1) Do all of the dorm rooms use standard mechanical keys or have they upgraded to electronic locks?

2) How many checkpoints do you have to go through to get into your room? Besides your room lock, are there security checkpoints at the dorm building entrances which supposedly only allow residents through?

3) What do dorm residents do to protect expensive items like laptops which can cost several thousand dollars? Do many residents buy those small room safes which can be attached to some immovable object in the dorm room?

Thanks!

1) All the dorm rooms have mechanical locks with an actual key, on south and north campus, I believe they lock as soon as you shut them (I know for SURE on South Campus that is true).

2) To get to your room, you have to scan your BuckID on your building's door, it will then unlock for you. You then walk past the people at the front desk who can clearly see if you don't belong there (as they are residents in that hall). From there, you just go to your room and unlock your door.

3) Most people just get a desk lock for laptops...you just hook it to your laptop and then hook the other end to your desk. That way if someone wants your laptop...they have to take your entire desk with them. I really don't know of anyone buying a safe...but that's just me...

The halls lock at 7 P.M. or at least I was told, after that you either need your BuckID or to call the main residence Desk.

The elevators in Lincoln require a BuckID to be scanned to even push the UP button.

Do you want to know how long we stood there wondering why we couldn't get the button to light up before I read the sign that was right next to it?
