Dorm suggestions?

I'm applying to Berkeley next year, and I wanted some suggestions on dorm residences. I want a dorm that's social, but not social to the point where there's loud drunk people EVERY night and I might not get the sleep I need because there's loud music and vomitting. Social, yes, chaotic, no. I'd still like for it to be kinda quiet. I'd rather party in a different hall.

For those in cultural dorms, like the Hispanic or African-American dorms?how are they?

There isn’t really a residence hall that is designated as the “social one.” The Units are historically characterized as “social” but really it depends on the type of people who are assigned there. What I find chaotic may be another fun and exciting social environment. So it’s really hard to say which one is best for you.

There are Theme Programs you may apply to.

it also varies year to year - a floor in a particular hall may be very social one year and sedate the next. It is all up to the students who come in. Since there is relatively little continuity, with most students finding outside housing for their second year at Cal, it pretty much starts anew every fall.

I would aim for Unit 3 and especially avoid Clark Kerr and Foothill if you care about a social environment. Unit 3 has smaller rooms, so people tend to hang out in common areas and socialize more. However when I lived there it was never distracting.
