Does anyone know if students are still required to have a landline in their rooms? I have read different information and am not sure if this used to be required, but is no longer.

Thanks

No, they don’t. Here’s what the website ([Move-In Guide](http://www.udel.edu/has/movein/technology.html#telephone)) has to say:

Thanks for the help.

I wonder if they have figured out how UPS and Fedex are going to contact the students in their dorms to let them know that they are downstairs with a package? I emailed UD about this but never got a reply.

During my times in the dorms, for FedEx I’ve seen them tack stickers to the door for the student. Supposedly this year UPS packages will be handle the same as USPS, where it goes into the RA Office, and you get a slip in your mailbox and you pick it up during office hours.

As far as I know all the dorm rooms are equipped to have a phone, meaning they have the jack, and you can bring a phone and cord and use it. There is a callbox outside each dorm, so a delivery person would dial your room number and your phone rings. You dont get service to make local calls, but it works for the callbox. In the towers it’s even equipped to buzz people in downstairs, but I think thats just for the towers.

That will be nice if UPS has a way of leaving the package for pickup so you can get it the same day. It was very frustrating having my son have to stick around his room waiting for the guy to show up. And in theory after the 3rd try they’d bring it to the main mailroom for pickup that night (or maybe the following day). I had a package (with fresh brownies in it) I sent that arrived in DE on a Thursday. my son missed the delivery on Thursday and Friday and then it was a holiday on Monday so he did not get it until the following Tuesday.

I just ordered something for my son from Lands End (sent to school) and was pleased to see that they shipped it via USPS so it will definitely go to the mailroom.

So, the answer regarding packages is that there is a room in the Trabant basement where Fedex and UPS packages will be delivered. The student will get an email telling them to pick up their package. My son’s dorm is very close to Trabant so it’s convenient for him. I am not sure what arrangements they can make if it’s a heavy package or the dorm is too far away to carry the package.
