dorming first come first serve?

Is the dorming choice first come first serve?
If you applied for housing earlier, does that mean you'll more likely get your choice compared to someone who applied towards the end of the deadline?

yes, dorming is first come first serve.

Just wondering~

What if you applied earlier, but updated a while after because you found someone to be your roommate? Does that make you lose your place in the “First Come First Serve” for housing? ):

I’m not quite sure. I’m guessing no, but you should call the school to find out.

I hope we don’t lose our place after we updated the contract…I did my contract on the first day available.

Yes, housing is first come first serve.

However if you signed up before the guaranteed housing deadline. Then whether you signed up on the first day the guaranteed housing deadline was opened, or the last minute before it was closed, your housing is still guaranteed.

Note however, that just because you’re guaranteed housing does not mean that you get exactly what kind of room assignment you listed as a preference. Hence, thats why its called “preference.”

If you happen to sign up after the deadline, they would put you on the waiting list.

My suggestion for those who happened to sign up after by accident, …like myself last year…then I suggest looking into off campus apartments.

I’m an apartment veteran, living off campus 1/2 a mile from UCr for 2 years now (never having been in the dorms because I didn’t sign up on time either) …and let me tell you…on campus they have to pay 1200 a month… off campus is 350-800 depending on whether you double up or get your own room.

Don’t feel down or have the idea that just because you didn’t make the housing deadline…that you will be homeless… There are off campus options.

i have a question…

what if i signed up for housing really early but my friend/roomate signed up really late…would i still get my first choice?

If you signed up early, would you get first floor, or is it random?

I REALLY REALLY want second or third floor. ): Anything but first… .

I have another question to add:

If I sign up early for a certain location such as A-I, but later want to switch it (let’s say Pentland Hills), do I still have that early spot?

I doubt it, i’m sure they already filled the spots
I just hope submitting my form 2 weeks before the deadline was early enough to get into East Lo =/
I think i’d be fine anywhere except Pentland
I need the social activity in my life haha

Do you guys know if there is a place where i can get a definitive guide to off campus housing?

Huntlytraders461:

The Highlander newspaper ran a feature on off-campus apartments a few months back: [Campus Review: Apartment Homes - Features](http://www.highlandernews.org/news/2009/05/29/Features/Campus.Review.Apartment.Homes-3744696.shtml)

There are always people who rent out houses and stuff too – just keep a lookout for flyers and ads.

“what if i signed up for housing really early but my friend/roomate signed up really late…would i still get my first choice?”

If you signed up first with your friend’s name as the roommate then they’ll try to pair you guys up since your name came up first.

I think you end up losing your spot. At the UCR Housing lec. the guy said that the contacts are in the database according to the date it was sent, so when you update it, it says it was basically ‘sent’ on the new date and time.

That’s pretty messed up >_>

wow are you serious? I signed up really early and I updated like a month later. Hope i dont get screwed

I signed up for dorming like 2-3 months early. lol
