Dorming in the Honors College

Does anyone know if it’s possible to dorm in the Honors College area if you aren’t actually part of the honors college? I heard that usually they only fill up about 70% of the Honors college dorms, and I also heard that there are people who aren’t in the honors college that are able to stay there. (Mostly students from Isenberg because of how close the dorms are). I just wanted to know if it was possible to be able to request for this.

I hear its quite the opposite, in that the CHC dorm do not have the capacity to fit all of the CHC students that want to live there. Some of the CHC RAPs are even in different living areas.

@Lerxst I thought the only people who are part of CHC but dorm elsewhere are the ones who chose Majors that aren’t close to the CHC dorms. Other than that, I wouldn’t imagine they would be accepting so many people into CHC that they couldn’t fit them all, mostly because of how high the bar is set this year for CHC.

S was able to get into CHC housing soph and senior year only because there were not more spots available junior year.

CHC housing is available only to those invited into the honors college upon acceptance.

I believe they can house somewhere around 600 freshman on the new campus. There is also an Isenberg Honors RAP over in a SW low rise, and there might be one or two others in there as well, but I don’t believe there are other honors locations around other parts of the campus any longer.

Some honors kids choose not to live on the new campus and they’re open to house anywhere. And finally, some who may want to live on the new campus may not have that chance just because of space, but honestly I haven’t heard that has actually happened.

Then, once you’re in honors housing as a freshman, you can choose to automatically go into the honors lottery for sophomore year (and beyond). At that point, it’s based on luck of your number and the choices of the honors students ahead of you with lower numbers. This is not unusual among housing lotteries at any university/college.

Hope that helps clear up the question.

Yup, just went to the Minuteman for a Day thing today and seems that @Actor123 is correct, can’t get into CHC housing unless you’re part of CHC in the first place. Gonna try for Orchard Hill then. Hope the walk isn’t too bad to Isenberg, cause I don’t really want to be around the party scene that is SW dorming.
