How do the dorms and food match up to JHU's peer schools? And how do they match up to each other? Which do you recommend? Why?

whats the real diff between wolman and buildings a/b? too many choices too many choices! :)

Wolman has a kitchenette, Buildings A/B don't. Buildings A/B are on the freshman quad, Wolman is across the street from the library.

I know I sound like a broken record, but have you checked out the Admitted Student Web Site and the JHU Message Boards yet. There is so much information on both of those sites about housing and dining, and all the new changes in store for next year.

And stay tuned to our student blogs in the next few weeks as they feature in detail dorm life at Hopkins.

Food wasn't amazing over the summer. The first day it was delicious, and somehow became progessively more bland as the weeks went by.

BUT keep in mind: They are hiring a new company to cook the food next year. I'm assuming JHU is attempting to keep up with the likes of Cornell. Dining options next year are going to be sweet.

I wanted to know if Hopkins is a walking campus or the buildings are too spread out and bikes are the way to go. If they are, are stolen bikes a big problem?

JHU is very much a walking campus although a few people have bikes and there are bike stand type deals where you can chain your bike to. I don't know about bike theft though.

Hopkins is pretty much a walking campus - you can get pretty much anywhere across campus in <10 minutes. Some people do have bikes (though I think its mostly people who live off campus) and there are bike racks near most buildings. There were a few issues with stolen bikes earlier in the year, but they all involved students using simple cable locks instead of a U-bolt lock. Since that time, Security has been reminding students to use U-bolt locks and adopted a policy of putting their own U-bolt locks on any bike that isn't well secured with one already (you just have to call security to get them to take it off).
