My daughter will be starting as a freshman at Ithaca this fall as a music education major (clarinet). Although she knows a great deal about the music program, she hasn’t learned much about residential life, namely the reputations of the various dorms. Soon it will be time to list preferences and she doesn’t know where to begin. She is a serious student and a VERY serious musician. She does not party, drink, etc. (although she is very friendly and sociable), and she would like to live in a more “quiet” dorm (or as quiet as possible given the college environment).
(The second half of my question was cut off).
We believe there is a substance-free dorm, but she would like to learn about all the others as well. Any help would be greatly appreciated (especially from current students or recent grads). Thanks!
My daughter, who is a senior music ed major (violin), stayed in the substance-free dorm (which was Hood Hall) in her freshman year and liked it very much, so much so that she requested the substance-free dorm in the Terraces for her sophomore year. I can’t remark on most of the other dorms, but I know the Towers have a reputation for being kind of noisy. Good luck to your daughter!
Thank you-that is a helpful start! I hope she chooses the substance-free dorm.
