Has anyone heard about the dorms at sdsu? Which ones are the best in regards to cleanliness, location, type (suite, hall, etc.)?

i chose a single at cuicicalli as my first choice, and a single at chapulpultec as my second choice. then i choce doubles at cuic, chap, tenocha, and zura. i hear cuic is nice, and chap is really nice but its far away--not close to any of the other res dorms except university towers-- and tenocha is nice. i hear zura is kinda crazy and you have to have the right personality to have a good time there. but thats just what i hear.

Thanks, we have heard similar things about chap being very nice but far away (close to rec center though). Have you heard anything about the univ towers? Also, have you heard anything about meeting people in a suite situation like cuic vs a hall situation like zura, tenocha, chap?

actually my friend lives in university towers right now, i visited him, and overall its a pretty nice place. this year it housed sdsu and community college kids, but next year it will only be open to sdsu kids. the rooms are cool, 4 people two sinks and one shower and toilet. the only reason i wouldnt recommend it is the location, its kind of far from everywhere else. if i were to be in that location i would choose the chap dorms. i do hear that meeting people is easier in the res halls like zura and tenocha, however with the suites in cuic you share a bathroom with 3 other people, and a common room with 7 other people, so youre bound to socialize with everyone. im sure any dorm is nice to live in, but i wanted to get a cuic single because although its close to all the other res dorms, i still have time to myself to study. i also hear a great way to meet people is to just leave your door open, and someone will probably stop by and introduce themselves.

Thanks, sockherplayer. My daughter is really beginning to look forward to sdsu next year. We visited a friend of hers in "chappy" and she liked it enough to request that dorm for next year. We also checked out Mission beach and drove up the coast along all the beautiful la jolla beaches. We have also heard that leaving your door open is a great way to meet people in your dorm. I think you will be glad that you chose to experience dorm life at sdsu. My daughter chose double rooms and I am praying that she gets a nice roommate. I hope you get nice suite-mates if you get into cuic!! Anyway, good luck next year and have a wonderful time!!!

thanks, good luck to your daughter too, im sure sdsu will be tons of fun

I lived in Zura, I met millions upon millions of people and definitely loved my time spent in Zura, i'm going to miss it. You really do need a certain personality to live in the "zoo", you have to be extremely outgoing or else you'll become a "cave-dweller" if you will.

I definitely spend almost every weekend at south mission beach, i'm back in Norcal right now and miss it so much. I'm pretty sure i have an addiction to skimboarding now. I'm literally going through withdrawls.

ucmom I read some of your posts about your daughter being rejected from UCSB. UCSB was my definite clear choice and initially I was rather depressed I was rejected from UCSB, but looking back on things now, the sadness was not worth it. SDSU definitely gave me the best freshmen year experience I could have ever asked for.

Thanks saved! She is looking forward to living in san diego! She still gets sad when people at her school talk about going to UCSB next year and she knows she was a better student than most of them. Anyway, I noticed you go to the beach every weekend. Is it easy to find friends who like the beach at sdsu? We live about the same distance from the beach and my daughter has many friends who don't even like going. Can you imagine that? Anyway, she hopes to spend a lot of free time at the beautiful san diego beaches if she can find people to go with her. Is south mission beach your favorite place to go? How are the waves, surfing?

If your daughter likes surfing there is a place called dog beach that is pretty close to campus that has great surf.

South mission is probably my favorite beach to go on the weekends because of how close it is to campus, plus the atmosphere there is great.

She'll definitely find plenty of people to go to the beach with, it seems to me almost everyone at state enjoys going to the beach and if not the pools are always crowded with people. If you live in northern california I can see why many people wouldn't like going to the beach, they're rather cold and not that nice. In San Diego I think everyone grows accustomed to loving the beach.

My definite favorite beach is Coronado, it's absolutely beautiful and great for skimboarding, although I don't go there very often because it lacks in the atmosphere that mission/pacific has. It's more of a family vacationing beach if you will.

if your daughter has any questions feel free to ask away.

Thanks for the info, saved! She has put chappy as her first choice, but it does not seem to have access to a pool. Do you know anything about chappy and does the rec center currently have a pool? I know there are new pools being built, but I hear they won't be complete until 2006. Also, for your second year of college, are there any areas or apartment complexes where a lot of sdsu students live? Are they close to campus?

The rec center does not have a pool. If she makes friends that live in Cuic or Tenochca, or Zura, there are pools located by all three of those dorms.

There is a mecca of apartments along Campanile that students live in, located right by campus, everything is within easy walking distance from them.

Hey saved, can you answer my questions for me on this thread? I would appreciate it: http://talk.collegeconfidential.com/showthread.php?t=54748

Also I noticed you said "You can look at average salary statistics and SDSU is up there with the top business schools." on another thread. Where can I find avg salary statistics for SDSU grads? Thanks.

Smebbs,
I believe i'll be taking IDS 290 next semester along with a finance 242 (I believe it is 242) which deals primarily with business ethics and then once i'm upper division i'll be majoring in Finance. I'm not really the one you should be asking these questions to, I will only be a sophomore. I'm pretty sure you can take Upper Division classes in addition to lower level GE classes. Also community college courses finally count for our GPA's now, so if you can get anything out of the way at community college during the summer, that would be an excellent course of action.

A while back someone had statistics posted using www.naceweb.org but I no longer see them there.

And i believe you have to pay money to find out exact statistics. I can't seem to find anything either, but you can read on SDSU business website that Hotel Management and Tourism Majors had 100 percent employment this year with an average salary of 36,000. So you can guess that the average starting salary was probably around 40,000-45,000 as most other business majors typically average more than hotel tourism and management majors. I read at Wharton that the average undergraduate business salary was around 50,000-55,000, so essentially you're talking about 10k difference in average salaries and each of these schools are two WORLDS apart from a prestigious standpoint.

Right on thanks for the info. I'm taking IDS 290, FIN 240 (Legal Environment in Business) and 3 upper-division level GEs. What made you want to major in Finance? Peers? This site?

Finance, because of my passion for investing.

Hey savedbythebell, could you check out my topic? Thanks.

Can any existing SDSU students suggest favorite restaurants, retailers, services to patronize? I am trying to get co-promotions partners for my new business University Cash, Inc. (see our phase 1 beta at http://69.20.65.43/) and wish to reward students that register with our site with gift certificates or discounts at favorite places near SDSU. Any suggestions will be greatly appreciated.

Trujillos, and 4.0 deli.

The housing login server has been down since yesterday. Do you think they are uploading our dorm and roommate info?
