Dorms at Wesleyan?...Drugs?

So I'm seriously considering applying to Wesleyan EDII. I visited and loved it there, but at the same time, the only thing that is holding me back is the drug scene.

I stayed in WestCo on a Tuesday and it seemed like that dorm revolved around drugs, which I can't see myself doing. I'm NOT going to drink for personal reasons, and I would rather not smoke weed. I am iffy about staying in sub-free housing because I am not sure how great the social life will be there.

What are the dorms like in the Nics, the Butts, etc? If I want to stay straight-edge, should I not go to Wes?

Dunno about the butts but I went pregame hopping in the nics so I assume it’s similar there lol

I think that from your posts you are focusing a lot on drugs/alcohol use. I think that no matter where you go to college, there will be people who do drugs and drink, and people who don’t. You also have no idea how you will feel about partying in two or three years. It will just be a matter of finding people who want to live the lifestyle you do. I know that there is at least one clean floor at wesleyan though, if it reassures you…

there are plenty of straight-edge people at Wes. WestCo is not representative of the social life on campus - it’s quite varied, and quite a lot of it doesn’t involve drugs. like it was mentioned, drugs are on every college campus. you just happened to find a dorm on campus where they exist in high concentration. if you are going to apply ED II otherwise, don’t let the drug scene deter you. it’s easily avoidable

My son, who has spent his first two years living in single rooms in the Butterfield dorms in the south end of campus, verifies the reputation of WestCo as you state it. But where he lives, and over most of the campus he says, it is not like that. There are many theme houses at Wesleyan where drugs do not play a major (or any) role, and when you apply for housing you can not only apply for the substance free housing areas, you can also specify in great detail the kind of place you would like to live in. If anything, Wesleyan is a very diverse campus, and if you attend, you will find many students similar to you in the kinds of social activities they enjoy. I should add that many, if not most, students spend most of their time outside their living areas. There are lots of things to do on that campus and in Middletown.
