Anyone have info on which dorms are for Sophomore transfers? Are the transfer sophomores housed in the Freshmen dorms since it is technically the Sophomore's first year at LMU?

Does anyone have any info about dorms at LMU? LMU’s website doesn’t give much detail regarding each individual hall. I’ve read Whelan and Rosecrans are the “party” dorms. Looking for a balance b/w not so nerdy and fun.

I just finished my freshman year at LMU and here’s what I can tell you about the dorms:

I’ve met two transfers, one starting here as a sophomore and one starting as a freshman (in the middle of the year) They were both housed in sophomore housing. So I doubt sophomore transfers would get freshman housing.

If you want info on sophomore housing I can’t tell you much but I’ll try. I’ve spent a good amount of time in most of the dorms.

Freshman housing: Rosecrans (I lived here fall semseter): fairly noisy, smells like beer on weekends, people always outside the front door late at night smoking/drinking, HUGE windows which I loved, room might feel small due to large furniture

Del Rey South (lived here spring semester): Rooms feel big due to built-in closet, quieter, houses the Honors students who choose to live together

Desmond: Quiet since it’s the all-girl’s dorm, clean
Del Rey North: Seems quiet enough…houses Healthy Living
Whelan: Louder, never saw crowds like outside Rosecrans though
Sullivan: Another all-girl’s, Quiet, clean, probably the best
Huesman: All-boy’s and so pretty noisy, definitely the “secret party” dorm - Rosecrans reguarly gets visits from Public Safety and EMTs but not Huesman, I always enjoyed being here though
Doheny: Didn’t spend much time here but it seemed to be right down the line with partiers and studiers. Was quiet when I was there but I’ve heard stories.

Sophomore housing: Rains: Definitely the most popular, seems quiet enough but have only been here a few times. Right in the middle of campus, nice-sized rooms too
Maccarthy: Haven’t been in…
Mackay: For some reason no one likes it…I’ve heard it smells but haven’t noticed it myself, and I heard it gets hot in summer. The campus diner, Iggy’s, is also on the first floor, with the Corner Pocket (which has air hockey, pool, ping pong and video games) so a lot of drunk people are there late at night which can get noisy. This is where my friends who are transfers lived.

Junior and Senior housing: (and sophomore if you’re lucky) Hannon: Very nice apartments, when there I’ve never had a problem with hearing through the walls or anything, very spacious. The Loft is there though, and it has drinks…so you might want to be careful of that.
Tendreich: Only been in once but very nice, bedrooms are on opposite sides of the apartment which I liked (though then you’re right next to your neighbors…)
Leavey: Only been in one or two of these but they’re very nice. View of the bluff and out onto the city is amazing.

Axel
Thanks for all your info. You were able to give me more insight directly from a student which is what I needed. I think LMU may be changing some of the girls dorms to coed from the info I was sent by housing.
Are you going to LMU in the fall?

Axel…
Why would you say Sullivan is better than Desmond? Is it cause of the location? Or…

Thank You for this information! Much appreciated!

Extremely helpful Axel. Thanks!

Ok I stayed in Sullivan and its awful

Do most sophomore transfers live in dorms or live off campus?

@jon, they mostly live in dorm, usually is the last two years they move out
