Dorms - Furnald

Ok, so I need a lot of help looking for the right dorm for me. I've read the thread on housing, and I've talked to friends at Columbia about it, but I am as lost as I ever was.

From online sources (Facebook, CC), I get the feeling that Carman is the most popular dorm, because it is social, in a nutshell.
My friends tell me Furnald is the dorm with the nicest facilities, cleanliness, peacefulness, etc.

My preferences:
- Single. I don't mind a roommate, but a single would be awesome first year. I hear that most people will have a roommate sophomore year anyways
- Bathrooms. Ideally, I like more private bathrooms, but it's not a big deal as long as it's clean.
- Air con. I don't think I care, unless someone tells me it will get really hot.
- Cooking. I sorta like cooking, but I won't if it's not convenient. Not really an issue.
- Cleanliness. In general, cleaner is better. Duh.
- Social. I want to make friends of course. Parties aren't really my scene, but I don't mind them if I have friends going.

So I was leaning towards Furnald, since my friends had such good experiences there. However, I keep hearing talk of being isolated/antisocial in Furnald. That concerns me, since I'm am closer to being introverted than extroverted. I make friends readily, but I don't do parties much.

Anyone have any suggestions for me?

this is the most important thing to consider, so go with a single in the LLC, every room is in a suite with a kitchen, lots of cooking, you’d be able to get a single, it a social dorm but not a party dorm. There’s no aircon which sucks for the first 3 weeks - beyond that it makes no difference whatsoever. Only carman has private bathrooms, so all others are similar, but JJ has the worst bathrooms. Furnald has nice bathrooms. Because the LLC has coed bathrooms, they are more private - (door for cubicle leaves no gaps, showers have door and curtain).

hmm, thanks. I hadn’t given much thought to the LLCs since I haven’t heard of anyone wanting to go to those.

you think LLCs would be better for me than Furnald? what of the mandatory activities?
is Furnald truly antisocial?

^the activities are not mandatory but sometimes they’re awesome. Furnald is less social than you would like as a freshman. sophomore year, furnald is nice.

any important differences between hartley/wallach?

^not really, no differences are significant.

awesome. thanks for the help. I’ve still got a bit more thinking to do, but LLC is now on my radar, and it sounds like a pretty good fit.
