Dorms/Housing

Link below provides some description of first year dorms. You may be able use referenced link to see visualization of assigned room that will indicate single or double.

Thanks, MidwesternDad, I actually looked at that site already. For some reason, the visualization website won’t let you see any Williams Hall Ground Floor dorms… so I still don’t know for sure. Also, how can you tell if something is a single or double from the visualization? All dorms seem to have two pictures (divided into two boxes), so I can’t tell which is which.
Thanks!

We thought they were two copies of the same picture and assumed that if one bed were shown, room was a single.

Oh okay, it’s weird that they won’t show Williams Hall basement rooms… I’d like to know what mine looks like. I just hope I don’t have to bunk the beds.

I would really like to know if the basement rooms in Williams Hall are as bad as I think they are: has anyone seen one of these dorms?

I stayed in Willy C basement during Previews, and I can assure you that the room wasn’t terribly cramped. There were two beds in a backward 7 formation in the upper/left half of the room, two closets against the lower wall, and a desk against the right wall (one desk was moved out to the common room). The remaining room is as big as maybe 2 beds.

Aside from sleeping, I think you won’t spend too much time in your room, since it connects to a common room that you share with one other doubles. The common room is definitely roomy: they had furnished it with two minifridges, two floor lamps, a lounge chair, sofa, dinette table with four chairs, and an area rug (which was large enough for me to sleep on). And the windows were really nice, and they had placed a bunch of pillows on the ledge, which was large enough to lie down on.

Hopefully this deterred any worrying :] If you want any other specifics, I’d be happy to answer.

Chandler, calm down. The basement suites in Williams Hall are fine. In fact, they are arguably better than the other suites. A typical double bedroom is extremely cramped, and to have any hope of fitting in both desks, one has to bunk the beds. This is not the case for the basement bedrooms. The common room is also more spacious than those of the rooms on the upper floors.

And yes, all the basement rooms are doubles. But you shouldn’t be “horrified”. It’s college. Williams is the exception in this country in that the vast majority of students (including freshmen) live in singles. So you got unlucky and ended up in a double. It’s just for a year. And the upshot is that you get to live in Williams, which is a great dorm over all (and recall that most rooms in Williams and Sage are doubles).

THanks for the advice guys! Yeah, I realize now that I was being a little ridiculous. I was just freaking out a week ago, but I’m over it now. I’m actually excited to have a double, but the main reason I was completely panicking was because I thought that the basement windows would be those little slit windows you see from outside. Thanks for the reassuring advice though, I think I’ll survive.

Sorry for being overly finicky/frazzled. I agree that Williams Hall is an overall great dorm: it was actually one of the reasons I picked Williams in the first place.

feel free to hang out with me at Willy E on the 1st floor haha

hahaha sounds good
