I'm trying to figure out which residential hall is the best to live in. I was told that Gilbert and Hoeing might be the best because it's more spacy but the dining hall is not in the same building (1 min away?) Also I heard good reviews about Susan B anthony because it has more storage and the dining inside and more freshmen. I'm leaning towards Gilbert. Any suggestions, comments?

Also, as a incoming freshman, there's only so much i can bring on the plane with me. Can you guys tell me how u managed to get everything u wanted over to the dorms on Move in day? I'm trying to figure out what to bring and how i can bring them all. What stuff is already provided in the dorms for u? are phones free? sorry for all the quesitons lol

Just so you are aware, if you are RD, you cannot choose which dorm you choose to live in...
But I chose Gilbert and I love it (except for my roommate... He is possibly one of the worst roommates ever... I have hated every minute of standing inside this room...)
If you want storage, just get storage cubes... And its not like that you cannot fit everything you need in storage... Trust me, you can :)

Yeah, if you have storage issues. Well i think the rule of thumb is you brought too much.

I mean if your organize well you can fit in just about everything. As Hopkinslax pointed out storage cubes / boxes / stacking thingies work qutie well.

As for which dorm to live in?

Well the generalization is if you like living, eating, socializing in one building. Go to Sue B. It's more...close-knit and you don't have to go anywhere for food (though it's not very good.) And Sue B generally is more livelier since the halls meet in one place and people can mingle more. Plus there's just more "storage space" in sue b. though the rooms are midlly smaller than the other freshman dorms.

Gilbert and Hoeing don't really have a central meeting place and there's a tendeancy for halls in gilbert to split up according to the distance to the closest kitchen / social lounge. But at least on Gilbert 3 and 4 we're working on ways to integrate the floor as one because the disconnect is somewhat awkward.

As for forms? I don't remmeber the details, but you can write somewhere on the app that you want a particular dorm I think. As for getting stuff there. You can ship it early to your CPU box and then i think they can hold it until you arrive. Or something like that. I don't remmeber the details. But I remember something about being able to pick it up when you arrive.

Sorry not terribly sure, I'm a rochester native and I moved in (and moving out) steadily. It's nice to be able to call home and get something in 15 minutes.

extra extra large? wow. mine, thankfully, is just a large, tho i prefer medium. u'd think they would ask, or something. then again, what do i wnat?

actually, i know what i want. i want some sort of packet with what i should be doing next.

You'll get that the moment you get on campus. This nice little handbook on what freshman need to do, things ot see (our stand up comic groups are quite good though one of the better ones is graduating this year).

Ooh the ever so famous "24 hour play" festival is also during orientation week. The short is people get together and write, direct, coregraph, create props a play in 24 hours. It's loads of fun.

Ah...and paper work. lots of that. contracts, and what not...i think...

".....we can't wait to tell you you'll be part of a big, wonderful class. We had a record low admission rate and a record high number of
responses. With our new President and Deans and construction underway, the Class of 2010 will be remembered as the beginning of an exciting new chapter in the long history of Rochester......."

Ha ha!!!!!!!! No more 19% yield!!!!!!!! Class of 2010 is the best!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! :) :p

Congrats. Logically that must mean that 2009 is the end of a big chpter in UR's history. Woot-ish!

Don't know what chapter that would be..."The great expansion"..."The horrible plague"..."Monkeys eating university student the chapter"...but anywyas....

i don't know if that necessarily means no more 19% yield. something tells me that they oculd say something like that for each year, and it would probably be somewhat true. so maybe there's now a 21% yield. yay!
