I'm sure this has been asked before.. but what dorms would you recommend?... What kind are offered, do the dorms have "special" themes. Anything else to know?

And... if you have any pictures.. please post.

Well, my son spent the summer in West Lag (Lagunita), which has some of the smallest doubles on campus, and they were freaking tiny. If he's accepted, he's going SLE, though, so he doesn't have to worry about housing choice, because he'll be in SLE housing.

Yeah, I was just introduced to the West Lag minidoubles a few days ago (I live in Wilbur, so I rarely make it over to west campus). They're highly undesirable, and you should hope you don't get one.

You should definitely go for an all-frosh dorm. They're loads of fun. Lots of dorm bonding and all that.

I love Wilbur, but I can't really say much about other dorms, as I'm in my own dorm most of the time. Wilbur has very large rooms (for a dorm room, anyway), a great dining hall, and pretty good location. We're also not like Stern, in that it's "defensible only in the military sense" or however that quote goes; the Wilbur dorms are definitely not cinder-block dorms.

Is there any way I can increase my chances of getting assigned to a certain dorm? I know there's a lottery system and all, but there's got to be a loophole, right?

I think you can request kosher and get a special dorm assignment.

So which dorms would you guys recommend?
(And which are all "frosh"?)

Can you guys rate your dorm (1-10) and give a small description,

Thanks.

how are the SLE dorms? what are the SLE dorms? Is there just one, no choice?

SLE folks all live in East FloMo. No, you don't get a choice, if you participate in that program, because part of the SLE program involves a stronger Residence Eduation (RE) aspect.

There's a ton of info about dorms in this thread - http://talk.collegeconfidential.com/showthread.php?t=129887

With SLE there are three possible dorms, allowing you to give a preference between all-frosh and 4-class dorms. Alondra is all-frosh, and half of the frosh are in SLE. Cardenal and Faisan are four-class; roughly half the students are frosh, and all the frosh are in SLE.

You shouldn't make decisions about SLE based on the dorm, though. Make that decision on whether or not you like the program.

You said, "You shouldn't make decisions about SLE based on the dorm, though. Make that decision on whether or not you like the program."

OH, I agree! My son is excited about SLE -- he'd live wherever to be in the program. Those are just the only ones I know much about. I know Lag (Ujamaa) from his summer stay there, and the SLE housing sitch.
