Hi there!!!
I was recently accepted to UF for Fall 2017. I am strongly considering UF. I am an out of state student from Texas.
Also, I am a female and would participate in rush in the fall as well.
So there is some background info, and using that I present the question: where should I dorm (if) I attend UF next fall!?
I have no insight with this university living outside of Florida, and i really want to set my preferences soon so I end up with as nice of a dorm as possible with girls similar to me that I could be compatible with. and I have no idea all the options. I’ve heard about LLCs but what is that!?
Off campus housing is not an option, I already paid my deposit and will be dorming as a freshman if I do choose to attend UF.
We just saw the dorms at UF last week. I think we were in one of the dorms you will want to live in. First of all be aware that it is unlikely as a freshman that you would get a suite style dorm. (2 rooms, 4 students sharing one bath) That will be available mainly for upperclassmen, or for dorms that are placed an inconvenient distance from freshman classes and sorority rushing.
The dorms closest to sorority row that house mainly freshmen are broward (which we saw) and Jennings, which is nearby, and supposed to be pretty similar. Much of Broward was renovated in recent years, so it’s got some nice new flooring and other upgrades. It looked pretty nice. We wanted to check out the bathrooms, and even though it is “traditional style” with everyone on the hall using the same bathroom, it seemed to be a nice area, privacy for your individual shower, plus a private changing area just outside the shower. I noticed though there was no bench seat to set your dry clothes down on, so you will need to either hang them over the side of the cubicle, or maybe get one of those plastic hooks that could serve the same purpose. I would not want to put my clothes on the floor as that would be wet.
Also keep in mind not everyone goes to class at the same time, so the bathroom generally works fine for a whole hall. Another advantage of this style of hall is it is very easy to meet people.
Anyway, Broward and Jennings are on the east side of campus, VERY close to the sororities and very convenient to most freshman classes plus places to eat. Also I should add that Jennings has an LLC (living/learning community) of people into healthy lifestyles. (not everyone in the dorm, but a subset of it) Likewise, Broward has an LLC of out-of-state students, so that group might appeal to you as well. There will be plenty of regular Florida students there too.
I felt the dorm I saw was very acceptable, the R.A. was friendly etc.
I think Broward is your best bet. Good luck!
@Trisherella Wow!!! That is SUPER helpful. Thank you. I will be visiting soon, and will make sure to check out both of those dorms.
The LLC’s intrigue me, but I am not quite sure what they entail. I am a fan of the healthy lifestyle one- I am into nutrition/diet/exercise, and the out of state one seems cool too. Hm. Wish I knew more about them to really understand the type of student they are best for.

Broward and Jennings are both highly recommended if you plan on rushing. Makes that first week (where you’re running from one sorority house to the next) much easier.
thank you @Gator88NE !! I think I am going to go for an LLC (out of state students) after reading about it. It seems like there is no downside, only advantages so why not? I think that means I would be in Broward. Those are the preferences I am gonna set for now, and after visiting if needed I will make adjustments.
