Dorms for Fall

Just curious. What dorm preference are you going to submit and why?
My D, since she is not in honors, is thinking of Broward or Jennings. She heard both were very social and well located. She is not sure which is her first choice yet...keeps changing her mind with each reported reputation (ex. Broward = partiers, Jennings = sorority types). She wants the "freshman experience" and so doesn't want a suite type dorm where there are four girls to one shower (Beatty) (or 8:1 like in Murphee). What has everyone else heard or learned about the dorms?

You might want to check out this thread on LiveJournal.com .. http://community.livejournal.com/ufstudents/501931.html "Which dorms are the best?"

Me, I want to be in the dorm with the less partying. I really dont want to be in a dorm where there will be constant parties, beer, and chaos / whatever. I'm really not interested in that type of stuff, and I won't be joining a frat.

I think my number once choice would be Murphree, then.. I don't know what else..

ksanders- really good link...thanks.

I have a general housing question if anyone can help...

S won't be making up his mind about where to attend until we make some visits.Does UF have such a great housing crunch that we must make a deposit now?He is eligible for Honors/Hume as a NMSF if Im reading all the info correctly (got the Honors invite in his admittance packet). We did send that $25 hold the place in line (seemed like extortion to me!) deposit way back when.
Any info anyone has would be greatly appreciated. Im trying not to call the Housing office,Im afraid they'll just tell me I have to send the deposit now, decision or not (I bet they count on people doing this and forgetting to ask for refunds by May 1..do I sound cynical LOL??)

My understanding is that when we get the housing agreement/rent form (in about 2 weeks), you have about one month (the actual due date will be printed on the mailing label) to return the actual rent deposit. If you do not return this by the due date, then you will lose your priority date that was established back when you gave the $25 deposit.

This the the link where we discussed this before:

My daughter did not choose UF in 2004, but as I remember, as long as you had the deposit date from "way back when", I think you are OK. The deposit date keeps your place in line for when you send in your choices for dorms. Many of my daughter's friends are at UF, most in the Honor's program, and most lived in Hume freshman year. Everyone seemed to report being happy there.

thanks everyone
I read up on the other link you provided..it still means I may have to send in $200 before he actually makes up his mind on a school in order not to lose the priority date #.Hate to think I might have to do that at 5 different schools....

We are planning to do the same thing. I would rather lose the deposit money than her priority date. I am hoping that she is able to make her final decision (all college decisions received) by the UF housing deadline date. We should have at least 6 or 7 weeks from now so that is a possibility.

hey is it still too late to apply? would all the good dorms be taken??? wut are some good dorms that has good facility? i don't want to live in crap dorms. anyone want to help???
