Dorms without air conditioning

I was put into Stanford hall, which doesn’t have air conditioning for the dorm rooms, and I was wondering whether there was a current student or recent former student who lived without air conditioning browsing the forums here. I am really sensitive to heat and have trouble sleeping with heat like we have now during the summer, so I was wondering how bad the rooms get in the summer months. (I realize its only for a month or so but a month without sleep seems extreme xD)

It will depend on the weather – some years are fine, others get hot in Aug. and early Sept. Contact ResLife. At some schools you can get a doctor’s note and get a/c in your room – however at ND you might have had to do that prior to room assignments so they could put in in a room with a/c.

My daughter was in a dorm without air conditioning. She’s kind of a priss, but surprisingly, she never complained about the heat. She did have two fans in her room; one of those tall, skinny oscillating ones, and a window fan like this one (which I think helped a lot):

How many fans do you have in your room? Maybe get one more; an oscillating type to move the air around. Also got to bed with your hair damp.

Daughter had AC (Welsh Fam) and son does not (St. Ed’s). Son has said that while it can get hot at times, the lounges are air conditioned so you can cool off there before going to bed and by night it gets cool enough to sleep. Luckily (???) the heat passes quickly and it gets pretty cold as we know! So, the hot days are few and far between!

My son is also in dorm without air conditioning. You can also try a clip on fan. We did this and put it at foot of bed so blows air over the top of him. You might have to mess with the fan a bit and find right place to clip it on for it to work.
