dorms?

best dorms for freshman?

CAN YOU PLEASE TELL ME HOW TO CREATE A NEW THREAD/DISCUSSION FORUM? I have been looking all over this site and cannot figure out how.

Not post to an existing - but instead create brand new like you did.

Thanks in advance for the info - and sorry for barging in!

Pop back out to the list of threads, you’ll see it there on the left, between “Recent Visits” and “Threads in”

Depends on what you’re looking for.

Rodney and Dickinson are by far the worst worst dorms on campus in terms of amenities. Tend to be the “party” dorms. Lots of (tiny) singles in rodney if that’s something your looking for. Dickinson is a bit of a trek to the dining hall and class.

George Read is bar far the nicest dorm for freshmen. Suite style with semi-private bathrooms and fairly new. Cons: it’s a bit of a walk from campus (though there are buses that run very frequently) and the suite style setup makes it less social than other dorms (people tend to stay in their rooms with the door closed). Also the only freshmen dorm on that part of campus, so not as many freshmen around.

Harrington and Russell. Russell was recently renovated. Both are a short walk to class. Very close to the library and Perkins. Near the best dining hall on campus (which serves UDairy ice cream). No particular reputation given to either.

I’m currently a non-honors freshman here at Delaware, and I was lucky enough to get put into Thompson Hall on East Campus right next to the Russell dorms (honors). I can tell you for a fact that Rodney and more importantly Dickinson are waaaay out of the way of everything. Don’t listen to what people say about them being the party dorms either. Plenty gets done wherever you are. East Campus has you right in the center of everything, so if you’re non-honors I’d want either Thompson, Lane, or the Harrington dorms.

My two cents on Rodney (my DD lives there now). Yes, the rooms are tiny (but you get used to it). The A/C is a plus. It is very close to most of her classes as well as to Main Street and Trabant. I had heard it was a party dorm, but I don’t get that from her at all. She studies in her room all the time. Even takes her laptop into the common room to do some writing. She would have never have chosen to have a single, but wasn’t given any opportunity to state preferences. I read on CC about students who wants singles and UD definitely has plenty for freshmen.

This is worth repeating.
Of course at parent orientation, they scare you off of the Towers big time.
