Dorms?

Can anyone tell me a little bit about the freshman dorms? Our son will be starting this fall and our housing questionnaire is due today. Any thoughts?????

Thanks so much!

Go for dorms on the West End.
But if he really wants to live on College Hill try for Scott.

What about Central Campus? I heard College Hill is a little small and isolated. Thoughts?

I don’t think there are freshman only dorms, as I think most, if not all, are freshman/upperclassmen dorms. I’m not a student yet, but I will be in the fall and I haven’t seen anywhere where there are only freshman dorms.

Anyway… one thing that really helped me pick which dorm I wanted and liked was the big booklet that was given to me in the mail a few months after getting accepted to ECU. It has a lot of information in it and tells what’s in every dorm and what’s around the dorms.

saballance12…My son was able to rate which dorm section he wanted but not the particular dorm. Is that what you did?

Yeah that’s what I did too. But your not really rating the dorms (or neighborhoods), just putting which one you’d want to stay in most to least. I believe College Hill is an upperclassman/graduate neighborhood, but I could be wrong.

I don’t think there are many differences in the actual rooms and dorms, as your paying about the same no matter where you stay. Unless you are in a suite of course though.

College Hill is not for upperclassmen with the exception of College Hill Suites. Have to be at least soph. for them. Plenty of freshman live in all the other dorms on “the Hill”
My S lived in Scott freshman year. It was renovated last year so is the nicest on the hill now. To be honest, very few upperclassmen live the dorms…mostly freshmen and sophs.

None of the West End dorms are suite style. They’re all hall style dorms. So if you want suites don’t choose West End.

On the Hill, Jones,Aycock and Tyler are hall style. Belk and Scott are suite style.

Central campus is great (I lived there many years ago) but I don’t think many freshman live there now.

Unless things have changed, you can only choose a neighborhood…not a specific dorm.
