I know there have been some previous threads on this, but I wonder if any current students/parents or anyone else who might know could advise us on the dorms. My daughter is torn between Graham-Lees (where she likes the social aspect, but posters have said it can be very noisy) and Gaines (where she likes the suite but wonders if it will be a little isolating). Any experiences to share?

Over the upcoming 2 years, W&L is remodeling both dorms, and getting rid of the suites in Gaines. So, there may not be as much choice this year as in years past. My daughter selected Gaines this year, and she has really liked it. She gets along great with her suite mates. Rather than being isolating, there always seemed to be a lot of students hanging around. However, they’re pretty social and went on a lot of rush dates and joined sororities. Many girls on their hall did not go through recruitment, and there does seem to be a negative, “nerdy” stereotype about Gaines. Graham-Lee does seem to live up to its reputation as the social dorm. Why not shoot for the middle and request Davis or Gilliam?

Incoming freshmen do not get to request specific dorms this year.

Sorry, I see the freshmen are not allowed to choose, but it is nice to hear about the different dorms anyway. Thanks.

Students in Gaines may need to make an extra effort to get to know people; students in Graham-Lees may need to make an extra effort to get some sleep ;)

Gaines is great for students in the arts as it is closest to the Lenfest Center. G-L is closer to other academic buildings. Since the campus is fairly small, this is not a major factor.
