First Year Residence Halls

My son will be a first year next year at W&L, but I’m having some trouble finding information about the available residence halls. What are the residence halls available, and what are some pros/cons of each?

Graham-Lees and Gaines. Both very recently renovated (Graham-Lees in process). Both very close to campus. I don’t think there are big enough differences to list pros/cons, but others may have stronger opinions.

Very close to campus is an understatement. Graham-Lees is a 15-45 second walk to most academic building and Gaines is maybe 90-120 seconds.

Those numbers really aren’t exaggerations. We have a small campus and Freshman are right in the middle of it all.

If your son will be involved in performing or visual arts, Gaines is a slightly shorter walk from Lenfest after a late night in the studio or in rehearsal. G-L is a wee bit closer to the dining hall & classes, which is helpful when the weather is bad. @coppijr and @MWCDSS are right, and with the renovation of G-L drawing to a close, there is very little difference between the two. G-L was once considered the more “social” dorm, but after Gaines’ conversion from suite-style housing, I’m not sure that’s still true.
