Which is the best resident hall area? Segundo, tercero, or cuarto? Or, to simplify it which is just the best resident hall to live in out of all 3? Just which, from your experience, is the best area or hall to live in?
I am not a student, but I am currently sleeping on the floor of my friend’s dorm in tercero. From what they have told me and what I’ve seen, tercero is the nicest building because it is nice and new. The dining commons also seems to be the most popular. The room I’m in is a triple, but is very spacious for a dorm. Everything is nicely updated and modern looking.
I heard that tercero and cuarto are really nice buildings but you can look for other threads since tercero is like middle on the campus and that is nice.
See my post in the thread right below yours: http://talk.collegeconfidential.com/university-california-davis/1876102-housing.html
^ adding on: Cuarto has the best DC food hands down.
Thank you everyone, I’ll just hope for either tercero or cuarto.
You should be able to put your preferences down. As of a couple years ago, Segundo was the most requested area and Cuarto was the least requested; I don’t know if that’s still the case now though. Regardless, if you put Segundo as your last choice housing area when indicating your preferences then you probably won’t be placed there. No guarantees though, because it ultimately depends on what’s available.
@PhantomVirgo why do most people choose Segundo?
Supposedly Segundo has the most active social/party scene. Its proximity to frat row has a lot to do with that reputation. But the thing is, you could have a super socially active floor anywhere, or a socially dead floor anywhere. It depends more on the people currently living there than the area itself, but you also have to figure that certain types of people are more drawn to certain areas based on their reputation, which could contribute to reinforcing its reputation.
For what it’s worth, according to a couple RA friends of mine, of all the areas Segundo (particularly the high rises) seems to have the reputation of being the most rowdy. But again, it will vary from year to year and floor to floor.
For anything else, you’d have to ask someone that requested it. I toured all the housing areas on decision day before my freshman year and Segundo didn’t appeal to me in the slightest.
And if you were going to ask why Cuarto is typically the least requested, it’s usually the fact that it’s off campus (albeit just across the street) combined with the fact that there are suites instead of traditional dorms.
@mmay0160: My older son 3rd year at UCD was placed in the Segundo housing area for Freshman year. He however was placed in the Primero Grove apartments which may be not used for Freshman since the school has since built more housing in the Tercero area. The apartments were actually very anti-social but he had friends in Gilmore and Ryerson, which cannot be considered “party” dorms, but they were definitely more social. He chose Segundo since they had more double rooms available vs. Tercero.
