Dorms

Can students get their own dorm room and their own private bathroom?

Depends on your school, a lot of schools have suites where you have your own room and bathroom and share a common area.

At NYU, every student has their own bathroom. But most rooms are doubles. If you want a single, it costs $17,000.

My friend goes to NYU (I visited her last fall), and she did not have a private bathroom. She was in a suite with 5 other girls, and they shared a bathroom. Not that that's the same as having communal bathrooms, but I just thought some clarification was in order.

if you have a single, chances are you are on a hall bath or share a bathroom with other singles in a suitstyle. you will not have a bath all to yourself

Anybody know how if there are single dorms with private bathrooms at any of the UC schools? Frankly, I need my own privacy, and I especially need my own bathroom, otherwise I'll rent an apartment or something

You sound like a real prude. Are you afraid that someone is going to see you shirtless?

Worried Student -- Way to answer his question. It's great to have such friendly and helpful people on this board.

Jerk

sfboy, apartments are expensive, more expensive than living in a dorm. If you add rent to utilities, the cost of food, and the money you'd put into gas driving to classes everyday, you'll still have to have a roommate. Unless, you're really rich at 18 years old. Somehow I doubt it. You may have your own bathroom at home, but sharing a bathroom in a suite is really not that bad. And if you have a community bathroom, well, it'll only be for 9 months. You'll just have to adjust. This is coming from a girl who thrives on 45 min-1 hr showers every day. If I can handle sharing a bathroom with 20 other people, anyone can!

Okay I've shared a room ALL my life, and I REALLY need my own room now for college. And I gotta admit I'm a pretty clingy and clean freak person, that's why I need my own room and bathroom, especially a private bathroom because I don't know who I would be sharing it with. And no "worried student" I don't give a damn if someone sees me shirtless or in something less, but like I said I need my own clean bathroom.

Sorry, you ask a dumb question you get a dumb answer. This is college, not royalty. Nobody gets a single AND their own bathroom freshman year.

sf- I was just messing around with you, but you really can't expect that. No, none of the UC's have single rooms with their own bathroom's for freshman. You can get a single, but it will be community style bathrooms. Honestly, it isn't that bad. You don't want to be so isolated from everyone else or you'll become a recluse.

In the UK, almost everyone has their own room, and a lot of people have their own bathroom as well.

I had both.

sfboy, are you going to die if you have to share your bathroom? Jeez, if you ever plan on getting married or have a family, you're GONNA have to share your bathroom. Kids these days are so isolated.

Just suck it up (You are a guy, right?)

I get it, he needs some space now that he's finally out of the house. But WorriedStudent is right about it not happening freshman year. I'v heard of some good perks at some goof schools, but a private room AND bathroom is not one of them. It's especially true if you go to a 1st or 2nd tier school, where they're putting 3 or 4 people in a standard double room because everyone wants a spot. You'll most likely have to tough it out freshman year, because just really wanting privacy and space won't get your school to get you your own room and bathroom. Sorry.

well, i know at harvard (not sure if sfboy is even interested in harvard) generally most freshmen who requests singles get them. and, depending on what dorm you're in, there is a chance you could have your own bathroom (or maybe share with one other person)...

it all depends on the school....

When you live in a dorm, you should accept the fact that it's one big pubic bathroom

Oi "retaineressiz" I don't need to your stupid bs so shut up before I report you, your hella lucky I can't cuss in here. And what the hell did that whole mommy thing come from you idiot. Oh excuse me if I don't want to share a bathroom with a bunch of strangers. Yea I wouldn't mind sharing a bathroom with my family or close friends, because they're my FAMILY, duh, at least I know them. So fdon't you go starting stupid comments like that before people lash out at you.

^So, I'm taking bets. Wacked-out liberal or wacked-out conservative?

At Wake Forest some of the freshman dorms you only share a bathroom with the room next to you, suite-style. I'm in a double room but we have our own bathroom (or at least as far as I can tell from the floor plan). I think in a lot of places that is the best you'll be able to get. Sharing with one person is a lot better than with like 15. Unless you can afford an off-campus apartment you should try for an arrangement like that.
