Dorms

so my friend visited this weekend........what he said.......

the campus was not lookin too good and it was way to spread out

but with the dorms............
there's one really nice one but it was all girls

there's one which no one wants to be in (didn't elaborate as to why)

and markley which has a ton of students but the dorms were pretty ****ty

now before this i was more or less 95% sure i was going to michigan...

so please someone help erase any doubt i might have

The campus looks ugly now but it looked nice at the beginning of fall. The architecture is quite good for photography. I felt that the campus was sprawled out when I visited during Campus day but it really isn't. Then again, I live in West Quad which is, locale wise, probably the ideal dorm. If you live in the Hill area or North campus than you'll be taking the bus/riding bikes.

I believe that the really nice girl's dorm is Martha Cook. I've heard Stockwell sucks and I've been inside Helen-Newberry. the double rooms are very cramped.

Baits is the dorm that nobody wants to be in. People say everything about it sucks. the food, location, people in it, rooms, but you do get your own shower unit I think.

Markley is full of freshman and I heard it gets old after a while. With the prank fire alarms at 3am and DPS officers constantly stalking the halls.

whats a dps officer?

The campus is gorgeous. If he thought it was ugly, he must have had his eyes closed. It's not spread out at all - the entire central campus is about a 10 minute walk across from any point to any point. North is a short bus ride away.

The nice dorm is Martha Cook.

You should visit before making your decision and make up your own mind about what the college is like. No one's opinion can replace your own with this kind of decision.

i've visited and loved the campus and whatever, but my main concern........are the dorms really that ****ty?....specifically markley, assuming i'm there next year

I think the campus is so beautiful. And no, it is not spread at all--thats what I really like about it. All the central campus buildings you'll have classes in are right by eachother for the most part.

How is south quad? Specifically the honors floors.

South quad is great because it is so close to central campus. The honors floors are just quieter than the other squad floors (but def. not anti-social). A lot of people only do honors program so they can get the garunteed south quad housing.

markley is not that bad... it can be a lot of fun, and you get to meet a ton of people you're own age.

You really shouldn't be basing your college decision off of dorms anyways. At Michigan, you'll prolly live in the dorms for one, MAYBE two years.

Yeah. I'll see how it goes. I don't even know if I'd go to Umich anymore.

I think I'd pick MSU med scholars over Umich if I got into that program. It's extremely competitive, though. (Chances = 0.1%, literally)

If I got that honors letter, does it basically mean i'm in if i submit the essay?
