Dorms...

Here are some questions I’ll open up for everyone’s input:

As a junior transfer what kind of dorms would I be placed in? I would prefer a single with a private bathroom. That sounds whiney but I’ve been living on my own for 5 years in my own apartment so I’m used to having it there. I read morris had some rooms with bathrooms on the first floor.

I’ve also heard New Pembroke and the Graduate centers aren’t too fancy. Which are the best dorms for me? Do the apartments on campus have one bathroom for all of the people that live there?

Info appreciated!

It's very unlikely that you will have a single with a bathroom only to yourself. There simply isn't much housing like that. I'm not sure the specifics of where transfers end up-- it tends ot be wherever there is space. However, the one room, one bathroom thing exists for probably less than 20 people on campus-- that's simply not how our campus housing was setup /designed.

I'll have to deal. Do transfers do the housing lottery thing?

Renix, as far as I know, they're not apart of any lottery. The normal lottery for students occurs in late March, early April, so that's already completed.

Maybe they'll move me into your closet...

you can always opt for off-campus housing, which at brown, is sometimes closer than on-campus housing (in terms of apts and houses that you can rent from that are literally minutes away). also, sometimes you can find cheaper or comparable options when you figure in meal-plan vs. cooking for yourself, utilities etc. etc. - take a look at ecollegecribs.com or craigslist or the browndailyjolt website to see if you can find anything coming up (last minute people who haven't found renters)....

thank you mattyb. i spend just under 3000 a year on rent where im at now. much less than the 9606 (even if you subtract food) Brown is making me spend. From what I've seen on ecollegecribs rent is astronomical around Brown.
