dorms

I see that my d's student account now has room and board. Does this mean the assignments are done? Anyway to find out where she'll be before the mailing comes?

If I remember correctly, she will need to log in to Inside ND and go to Housing and Residence life. I think there is a page that says something like Home Under the Dome? She will need to log in again and perhaps it will show her room assignment.

No, It isn't ready yet. I just checked. I really want to know though, hopefully it will be online by Monday.

I remember waiting forever for this to go online. When it finally did I found out my dorm, but also found that I had mistakenly been assigned a female roommate. That was an interesting week or so...

Are any dorms carpeted?

nope. you'll have to do that yourself. its not difficult, just get a room carpet from home depot. or your dorm may provide a carpet cutting service in the beginning of the year. there are really no distinct advantages to either one.

The hallways are all carpeted. The rooms aren't though. Particularly for the guys dorms, this is probably a good thing... A good sized area rug ought to do the trick...

Put down carpet before you move in any furniture! It may involve moving all furniture into the hall first, but in the end, carpet will stay put!

My d saw on facebook that the dorm assignments will be e-mailed tomorrow. Not sure if the news is reliable.

What are the dorm rooms like? Can you hang things on the walls? When I was in college the walls were made of kryponite or something and you could NOT use nails or screws--we were left with those sticky foam things so that meant no shelves, bulletin boards or similar.

russ08, the poster admitted later that the date was a mistake, but he states that housing information will be sent in an e-mail on Tuesday.
Mombot, the ORLH web site says: "Charges will be assessed on the student’s account whenever damage to the room occurs because of the use of scotch tape, duct tape, electrical tape, adhesive picture holders, 'poster putty,' thumbtacks, nails, decals, etc."

Don't worry too much about the wall damage thing. Just nothing crazy, like you can't punch a hole in the wall or anything. A friend of mine got walked in on by the room inspection guy at the end of the year with a hammer in his hand, a nail in the hammer, and the nail in the wall, and they didn't say anything.

I'm not aware of housing information--or any other key information of that type--being sent out by ND via e-mail. They like the snail stuff for the big news. I have, though, heard that there might be postings on the Inside ND network, under the housing section, once the user is logged in. Nothing there yet.

You'll get an e-mail telling you that your housing assignment is up, and then you can check it out on insideND.

So we can use tacks and stuff for the walls? I'm scared, I don't wanna get charged.

Nails are up to your discretion, depending on how nervous you are, but as far as tape and hanging posters and those hooks with the adhesive back, you should be fine. The bookstore has those hooks where you pull down on the back of them and they come off with no residue.

Anyway, just relax. It'll work it out.

Res life posted a notice to watch your ND eamail for housing and roomate assignments coming soon

Toothpaste works wonders for filling tac holes.

I just popped over to the ND website. There is a new link in office of Res Life entitled "First year housing information; roomates" or something like that. It is a bold-faced link. I clicked it, then it directed me to a notice on 2005 graduation weekend housing, then re-directed me to an error message. This leads me to believe they're going to be posting stuff up there any time soon...

Good luck to everyone. If you get Lyons, you've won the lotto :) (If you are a guy and got Lyons, then I guess you've REALLY won the lotto ;)

Good Luck to everyone with dorm assignments--hard to believe that son has finished 1 year of ND and will be returning as sophomore this fall. The year went by so fast! Again, good luck!!
