Does anyone have any idea when the students get their active e-mail addresses? Also, do most dorm rooms have furniture already -ie beds and desks? Is there room for anything else? Are valuables relatively safe?

You won't get those until well into the summer, sorry boss.

All rooms come with a bed, desk, and wardrobe. In most dorms, they are modular furniture (http://orlh.nd.edu/housing/undergraduate/facility/modularfurniture.htm), but sometimes they are non-standard, although that is usually reserved for upper-classmen.

I lived in, literally, one of the smallest rooms on campus my freshman year. With a little bit of ingenuity and some adaptability, it is livable, especially if you keep in mind the hope for a better room as you get older.

Thanks- I wish they had dimensions available. Did you ship your stuff out or buy it in or around South bend?

Mostly bought it, but then again, I live in New York, so shipping big things like futons and tvs and fridges or bringing them with me weren't really options. People who live closer tend to bring more things with them. There are tons of places around campus to buy everything you need.

do you think they don't publish the dimensions because they're so tiny???

The only places that are tiny that I have seen are MoTown and Fisher. If you complain about anywhere else, then I don't know what's wrong with you. A bed's a bed. You shouldn't be in your room all the time anyway.

Rooms are definately small in some dorms, esp when housing tries to put two freshman into rooms that were meant to be singles. Lofting beds helps tremendously according to our student's experience. And, bpayne is correct in that you probably won't be spending that much time in your room if you are taking a full load of classes and other activities. And, as the years go by, when you gain some advantage being a soph, jr and sr, your room situation can hopefully be better and larger!

Room sizes will vary so much they couldn't possibly publish the dimensions. Some are actually large (west quad) while others are small but have charm...You will get your bed, desk, chair and wardrobe/dresser thing. There are tons of places in town to get all your extras, and also they sell a lot right on campus from local stores (very easy and good prices)...during Frosh O weekend, while the kids are off doing the fun stuff all the parents are at Linens and Things, Target etc. buying stuff!!! I guess it's a bonding time for parents in a way too!!! No worries~you can get it all there.

Darling D got mail today concerning NetID and email address. She's in the system now.

I got mine too, but I'm having problems with the insideND page. I'm able to log in, but it'll only let me stay on the page for about three seconds before it says my connection has timed out. So frustrating! I reported the problem to OIT, but who knows if that'll help... what should I do?

I had the same problem last year. The internet browser you are using does not support insideND. Simply switch to one that does, like Mozilla Firefox or Internet Explorer.

Internet Explorer solves my problems. Thanks so much!
