dd was that on inside ND or the general website i couldn't find that

ddjones, what do you like about Lyons. I see so many opinions about the guys dorms, but it's been hard to find much on the female ones.

I like Lyons' architecture. It has a beautiful arch that overlooks the lake.

I liked Lyons because I lived there, which makes me pretty bias. That being said, the architecture is amazing. No matter where you are in the dorm, there is an amazing view--whether it is of the lake, the quad, the Lyons/Morrissey/Howard courtyard, or the grove of walnut trees. It is close to everything. As a runner, I particularly loved the proximity to the lake. I used to walk out of the dorm from the most convenient exit. But I always came in through the arch. There's no better way to end a day than to see that lake framed in the archway.

Honestly, all the girls dorms have their own charm...but there really aren't any with the architectural distinction of Lyons. Recently, the university released a list of preservation priorities--buildings they were committed to protecting, and the degree to which they were willing to protect them. There were only a few residence halls on the list of buildings that were to be protected to the highest degree. Lyons was one of them. I think Sorin was too. Don't remember the others...

My daughter really would love to get into Pangborn, because it is newer and has bigger freshman rooms, but still has a great thick-of-the-South-Quad location. I figure she will fall in love with wherever she is assigned.

Even though Lyons is the best ;)

It's up, guys.

And it looks like I'll be in Knott.

Looks like I'll be in Keenan. Anyone know if thats good or bad? Is there any way we can see the dimensions of our room, and what does it mean when it says theres no modular furniture? Does that mean that the furniture can't be stacked on top of each other, or that the furniture cant move, or what?

ManUtd, I'm in Knott as well.

http://orlh.nd.edu/halls/index.htm

Check here for pictures, korean_halfbreed. And I don't know what modular furniture means.

And that's awesome, Toclafane!

ill be in Keough

AHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHH I just found out that it's up

sigh... but right now the server's jammed up and I can't get through...

I'm soooo anxious to knooowww...

Oh I got in!!

I found out who my roommate is but I can't decypher which dorm I'm in...

ON-243a this is what it says for me... and I'm assuming that I'm in O'Neill Hall... am I right?

Yes, you are.

For future reference to everybody else, there's a small link at the bottom of the page with a list to decipher the codes.

My d is in a quad in pasquerella east. Besides the bad location. . . any other info??

do you guys know anything about O'Neill's Hall?

I kinda wanted an older dorm b/c of traditions and stuff

sigh...

and when is approporiate time to contact my roommate?

Hey Russ08, my son (in Siegfried), thinks the gals in PE are the best!

Lyons here seems to look like a three romm quad????What's the scoop. Exactly where is it located the maps is hard to tell.

looks like im in alumni, which is exactly what i wanted

First of all, as far as girls dorms go, Walsh is clearly the best!

Russ08- PE is out in the middle of nowhere, but the rooms are REALLY big compared to some of the older dorms, and there is the added benefit of air conditioning and a nice elevator. And all this modern convenience comes without the infamous strict rector of PE's neighbor, PW.

Wowser147- I don't know much about O'Neill's traditions and stuff, but that the rooms are pretty good sized and you'll be close to South Dining Hall.

Korean_halfbreed- Modular furniture is that special furniture that can be stacked to create a loft with no additional hardware. It makes lofting and everything easier, but sometimes the flexibilty of being able to customize your own loft and room setup is nice. Either way, lofting your beds will save so much space, although some dorms don't let freshman loft non-modular furniture, and you'll have to just bunk the beds.

And to all those people worried about nailing stuff into the walls: Some of the newer dorms have those cinder block walls that you can't really nail/tack anything into, but in the older dorms with normal walls, you should be able to use tacks as long as you don't do too much damage. I wouldn't recommend building shelves or anything, but poster tacks should be OK. My roommate and I used a lot of tacks and a couple nails and didn't get charged for it. Also, if you are in a newer dorm, those 3M sticky-backed hooks/poster tack works well enough.

i live in siegfried and can tell you that PE is a great girls dorm. I'm also not so sure I follow you on the "bad location" bit. Mod quad rooms are nice and spacious, plus it's a quick walk to both the Library and LaFun (as if it's really a long walk anywhere...haha).

Isn't O'Neill pretty much far away from everything else except the dining hall?

where are most freshman class rooms located anyway?

hmm my roommate doesn't seem to have facebook or myspace...
