Daughter is in Welsh Family. She is excited-seems that there are a few girls that she has gotten to "know" on facebook too, so she is really happy. Interesting too that it is a "new" dorm-anyone have anything to share about Welsh Fam ?(as I guess they call it!)

so what do you guys know about howard?

Hey guys,
I'm in Pasquerilla West, and I've been hearing all this talk about the dorm being really strict. Anybody have any examples of this strictness? I'm getting a bit scared, lol...

Awww do not be scared at all about P-Dub....it is definitely the best girls' dorm on campus! I loved my freshman year there...all of the girls are really close and tight-knit, our dorm is newer so we have bigger rooms and A/C, we're probably the most athletic girls' dorm on campus (we've won the girls interhall football championship two years in a row, and many varsity athletes live in PW), and we have a great location very close to North Dining Hall (the superior one), the library, Jordan Hall of Science, LaFun, etc. And Sister Sue (our rector) is really nice...she may seem strict at first and to outsiders, but she really just cares about her girls and has TONS of dorm pride. Please don't worry at all! And please let me know if you have any questions about PW...I'm on Frosh-O staff and also on PW Hall Council so I can answer any questions you have! Welcome to P-Dub and I can't wait to meet you in August! :)

Pizzahut is in Zahm!

Go Zahmbies!

S is in Sorin. Room # was listed as SO-01 3b. Does anyone know if the "b" means basement? Sigh, $10,000 for room and board and the room is in the basement...hopefully someone will tell me this is a good thing!

im in pasquerilla east.. im assuming that's near north dining hall too.. ive only been in the south dining hall but i looked online and it seems like there are almost NO food choices in the north one.. do most people just take the farther walk to south? i love my food so i wouldnt mind. haha.

sryrstress - Hmm. I just had a look at Sorin's floor plans and, unfortunately, it appears that room 1 is in the basement (http://orlh.nd.edu/halls/sorin/floorb.htm). But in most cases, the b just means that you've got a roommate (i.e. bed a, bed b, etc.).

My daughter is in Pangborn, which was where she wanted to be! She is thrilled. Her brother lives in Fisher. Should be interesting!

My son says the Pasquerrilas/Seigfried/Knott Mod Quad is actually pretty cool--he has a lot of friends living there. I guess they have a great chemistry between the dorms, as well as awesome courtyard.

I think those new dorms--O'Neill, Welsh Fam, McGlinn and I forget the other one--look pretty cool to me. Big rooms, climate controlled, overlooking the golf course (or what's left of it).

Really, pretty much anywhere you live is going to be cool. Congratulations to all of you! :)

D. is in a quad in P-W Happygirl! She's on the second floor.

Any curent Lyons students who can explain the layout of 116 118 and 118A? Are the assignments where the beds are? Can you arrange things anyway you want? How small is small? i

i'm in stanford! anybody know anything--i heard it's an older dorm... that hopefully means lots of tradition!

jvon, my brother was in Stanford and he LOVED it. Infact he stayed there all four years. They're pretty intense about their interhall sports, but definitely lots of tradition.
page47, I'm in Howard too!

atakd--omg! awesome!!
are you on the facebook group thing for us howard girls?
what floor are you on?

yeah, stanford sounds really cool--they won some interhall athletic award like 6 straight years so that's awesome because i'm so excited to play inter-hall fball... the only thing is, i was really hoping for A/C... i cannot sleep at all at night unless it's freezing cold in my room... they don't let you bring the little window air conditioners do they? because i have one in my room now (even though my house has air conditioning lol) and i would love to bring it

It doesn't get all that hot, really. You can't bring a window unit. It's amazing what multiple fans will do, though. You'll get plenty of freezing cold in due time :) It's better on the lower floors than the upper ones, at least when it's hot outside. Fortunately, I've never heard of anyone at ND that had problems with heat in the winter--at least, none that weren't taken care of, pronto.

No, I haven't seen the facebook group yet, but I'm going to go look for it now! I'm in the quint on the second floor. What floor are you on?

Check my e-mail to you, KR. It is a three room quad. I lived directly above it in exactly the same floor plan my freshman year in Lyons. My daughter stayed in the exact quad your daughter is living in, back when she visited as a hs junior--she thought it was awesome. There are three rooms, connected by doors (each room has a door to the hallway as well). The two outside rooms have bunk beds, desks, wardrobes and chests (no built in closets) for two. Each of three rooms also has a sink and mirror, located right next to the doorway between the rooms. The middle room will most likely be vacant. Any extraneous stuff--the futon, the chair, the stereo, the TV, the frig--usually goes in that middle room. Believe me, there will be NO room whatsoever in those side rooms for anything other than the beds (which have to be bunked to fit), the desks, wardrobe and chests. The beauty of the quad is the middle room, which makes for a really nice hang out and social space.

The three rooms, as I noted in the e-mail, are very small. When my daughter visited, they had the same dark brown linoleum they had back in the 80's. Upside is, an area rug will easily cover the space. It's a stark-looking thing when you move in, trust me. But they can really transform it. I lived in quads my freshman and sophomre years. The sophomore quad had bigger rooms. By the time I was a junior, I had a h-u-g-e double with an awesome view.

Thanks DD was at work without access to my personal email thank you for repeating yourself for me. D is getting happier by the moment.

Daughter is in Cavanaugh, appreciate any information you can provide regarding this dorm.
