Any advice about the character of the Freshman dorms?

As a freshman, my daughter was not placed in the all-freshman dorm. Instead, she was in a mixed-class, all-girl dorm, which she hated at first but ended up loving. (She said it was quieter and cleaner than the coed dorms!) The freshman dorm that year (2006-2007) was Bornheutter (sp), which was brand new and quite lovely. However, I think they move the all-freshman dorms around from year to year. ...

While moving our daughter in for her first year, I recall moseying down the hall to the bathroom and quickly realizing that I "wasn't in Kansas anymore!" (Or Kentucky, in my case.) On the counter was a small basket of condoms, two for a quarter. Hmm. When I asked an administrator about this later, she said they were not trying to encourage sex, but college students being who they are, the reality is that some/many are going to be sexually active during the course of their four years there. She said that Wooster would rather make condoms readily available than deal later on with unwanted pregnancies and STIs. It made sense, but still seemed a bit strange that I was leaving my sweet little girl at this place with ... public condoms! Well, two years later, she's still my sweet girl. I think. ...

Thanks for the info. I found the following on their website: 2008-2009 dorms Andrews International
Bornhuetter Freshman
Compton Woman only
Holden Annex Freshman
Wagner Freshman

Do they put freshman in the international dorm? Do they ask for your preference? Are some more desirable?

My older D at another LAC school ended up in the woman's dorm freshman year and she also ended up loving it! So much so she requested it for her sophomore year. Thanks!

Holden Annex has (I've heard) a rather homely interior, though it may have since been renovated. My daughter, who has never been housed there, loves the location, as it is centrally situated next to the Lowry Student Center, close to the main library and physical education/gym building. .. I personally found Compton a bit dreary on the inside, though once the girls finished decorationg, their lively presence really breathed life into the old place. ... Bornhuetter is probably still pretty wonderful, being so new. ... I'm not sure about the international dorm.

My daughter was in one of the freshman seminar houses. It is an option that comes with a few of the seminars. It was a great experience for her.

since i've participated in the summer music camp hosted by Wooster's music department, i've stayed in Armington, Kenarden, and Babcock. the rooms in Armington seemed a little small, but were comfortable. Kendarden has an elevator and the lower level lounge i believe is air-conditioned. Babcock was my favorite. Babcock was my favorite. for the week of the music camp, i stayed with another girl from my school, and we had a lot of room. if you look at the picture of the hall on Wooster's website and see the section of windows that pop out a little bit, we were either the set of windows down at the bottom of the little jut-out or the ones at the very top. at least the room seemed to be very spacious. i imagine once you get everyone's stuff moved in that it may seem to be a little smaller, but it'd still seem to be a bit bigger than most.
