What are the dorms like at Pomona? Do they have individual bathrooms? I know they are rated highly on Princeton Review, but are they really that nice?

Yes, most rooms are pretty good.

Mudd/Blaisdell dorms are the only ones with ac on south campus (where most underclassmen live), but you only really need ac the first and last couple weeks. Doubles are fairly spacious, though M/B doubles can be a bit small in comparison to the others. Singles are a decent size as well.

Freshman do not get personal bathrooms, though there is an opportunity to get private bathrooms sophomore year and up. Don’t worry though, there are so many bathrooms along each hall that you really only share it with 2-4 people.

The dorms are great. My room is very big, and I share a bathroom with 4 other people. No AC, but it’s really not needed for the majority of the year.

Compared to the new dorms at UCLA where S lived, there’s no comparison; however, they have a wonderful character and lots of living and storage space (high ceilings) that provide more of a homelike feel. D never complained during her four years!

I live in Blaisdell hall (as a freshman), and there isn’t much to complain about at all. There are 3 bathrooms per a hall (male, female and gender neutral) all having two showers and a toilet. All freshman in blaisdell live in doubles, which are smaller than the rooms in other halls but the air conditioning is well worth it to me. Lucky sophmores live in Oldenborg, which has great housing, and upperclass housing is great as well. In addition, Pomona is building new dorms for upperclassman opening up in 2011.

Rising sophomores also have the opportunity to apply to be sponsors who all live in singles, albeit on south campus, with the exception of the sponsors for transfer/exchange students.

Harwood (freshman housing) is almost entirely singles, and I don’t know of anyone in a single who had to request it. So if you want a single, all you have to do is ask and it’s basically guaranteed. The shower to person ratio is also fantastic; I’ve never had to wait to take a shower (nice and hot, too).
