Does anyone know anything about any of the dorms? Good, bad, dirty, clean, loud, deserted, etc. I've been looking at Berry Hall which is supposed to be pretty nice but does anyone have any other information about any of the other dorms? thanks

My s is in College Lodge this year and will be an RA in Macalister next year. He LOVES College Lodge, which is a rundown, old, moldy motel with outside walkways (but with the largest rooms.) He is disappointed that he will be living in Macalister, which is suite-style. He claims that CL students hang out more together, find it easier to meet other people and participate in “dorm” activities because they have to – no cushy lounging and kitchen area in every suite. CL is also priced much lower than the newer dorms.

I think that the issue of the suite-style housing is interesting. I’ve heard a number of parents talking about the difficultly their child is having making friends (not just at CofC but everywhere.) I wonder if you have 3 or 5 “mates,” are you less likely to get out and socialize? My s claims that this is true and that he see it as a challenge next year to get quieter, less outgoing kids out of the comfort of their dorm suites.

As far as I can tell, all the dorms are well located so that getting to classes, the library, dining hall, etc. are all equally easy.

Macalister had a proplem with frequent fire alarms but the administration working on that problem this summer.
