Any opinions on the dorms, old and new students?

when i had my interview with an alumnus, he blatantly told me that gtown dorms are not that great.. don't expect too much out of it... he said most people come out on sophomore or junior year and live in apts or houses.....;

yeah, the dorms i saw seemed pretty crappy. but just hang on 2-3 years, and you have a shot at the georgetown townhouses! those things are awesome...there's like 40 of them that the university owns, and they're each worth millions.

(yes, i am one of those people for whom the campus is a deciding factor when choosing a college. that's why i remember all this stuff from the tour...)

I don't think the dorms are bad. You don't have a choice freshman year, so just be cool with whatever you get. New South was just renovated so it's nice. Southwest quad which is for sophomores/juniors was recently built. I think there is a good variety of different apartments and houses too. Not many schools have really great dorms- I think georgetown's are pretty average, but dorms really shouldn't be a deciding factor of what school you go to.

Which freshman dorms are good which r not?

There are strengths and weaknesses to all of the dorms..

New South = Recently renovated. Riverfront view, if you're lucky.

Village C = No community bathrooms, easy access to Leo's (dining hall.. is this a con or a pro?)

Harbin = The patio? Decent space.

Darnall = Proximity to Leavey Center + Hoya Ct., a bit far from Leo's, but you could always take the GUTS bus and be lazy, have it drop you off at SWQ and walk to Leo's from there.

I meant any old and dirty ones? By the way are the dorms air conditioned? I know that Dartmouth doesnt allow any(their dorms are the worse).

All of the dorms are air conditioned, but certain dorms have seasonal heating/cooling (e.g. Wintertime, it's heater only, Summertime, it's air con only). New South doesn't have this, but one of the freshman dorms do.

I don't think the dorms are crappy at all. I actually think it's pretty nice, I miss my bed and my view of the Potomac. All of the freshmen dorms have their perks, and I personally am going to try and live on campus as long as possible. You don't realize how nice it is to have everything taken care of (trash removal, extermination, maintenance, the internet, bathroom cleaning, cooking...) I am in no hurry to start having to go to the grocery store on a regular basis and actually cook myself food. I did that for the last two years of high school and it sucked.

I remember reading an article in the Georgetown "Independant" in which the journalist had a cockroach fall on her head in her dorm room.

Take that for what you will.

I visited Georgetown a couple of times and the dorms doesnt seem as old.
