I know applicants should declare their primary interest of a school on application. But many students, including me, want to explore more possibilities. My first interest would be science, but I am also interested in courses offered in SFS and MSB. Will I be only permitted to take courses in my school that admits me? Or are SFS and MSB exclusive to their own students and the only chance to get a double degree there will be internal transfer?
You shouldn’t double post like this but rather bump your original post but I digress. You can definitely take courses in another school but obviously they will give priority to people in that school. Tbh I’m not positive but I do not think you can double major across schools. An internal transfer would just switch schools also, example you got accepted to college but realize you love business so transfer to Msb, at that point that is your new school and you chose a major in that school your not enrolled in both. I would just go to website and search around to get better info but my intuition is you can’t double major across schools
Sorry, I thought I did not post it。。I hope someone could delete another post.
You can’t double major across schools, but in most circumstances you can minor across schools (let’s say major in Finance in MSB and minor in Chinese in the College), but not if you’re in the SFS. If you aren’t in the SFS and want to take SFS courses, you can apply for a certificate, which is essentially a minor.
Edit: Also, if you’re just interested in taking courses in from a different school I don’t think it should be a problem. You will be low in priority during registration for a class that isn’t in your major, but you can still get it as long as you fulfill the requirements for it. Most SFS classes are really COL classes anyway.
The SFS and MSB recently just collaborated to create a cross disciplinary major called Global Business, which may be of some interest. Secondly, Georgetown generally doesnt tell people this, but if you have a good relationship with your dean or know professors who will go to bat for you, you can essentially do anything you want. I know someone in the SFS who created an International Philosophy major, a Computer Science major in the Business school, and lots of others. You just need to talk to the right people (being a good student always helps as well).
