Hey, I was wondering if it is possible to double major at Columbia between the schools. I want to major in biomed engineering at SEAS and also chemistry at CC but I cannot afford being there five years in the 3-2 program! (At least I think I want to...either that or applied math with chemistry) I know that the classes offered by both are the same, so the scheduling and classes isn't a problem. The problem is if they let you.

By the way, I got early acceptance into SEAS. Columbia University Class of 2009!

Nope sorry. Wish it were possible. But alas it is not. Besides as an engineer it wouldnt be humanly possible to double major even if they'd let you. Too many credits already. And a bio-eng plus chemistry? You'd have to take like 30 credits a semester...you wouldn't have enough time in the day to take all of your classes...

Well, I'm not asking if it is humanly possible...my brother double majored computer science and chemistry at Berkeley and graduated in four years.

Ivyman, I noticed in another thread you posted: "I'd agree with soul. Yes a lot of SEAS kids are beyond excellent at math. Though not all of them. There are plenty of SEAS students who take Calc I. But though they often meet the expectation of having talent in math and science, there are plenty of other interests represented. I had one friend in SEAS who was a great musician, minored in music, and later went on to compose music shorts and commercials for MTV's programming...he had majored in Comp E."

So let me get my facts straight...you can minor but cannot major?

Just out of curiosity...What did you major in? What are you doing now?

I majored in Neuroscience with a Poli Sci concentration. I work in Defense now.

And yeah double majoring is just not possible because majoring in just one engineering field is difficult enough. There are many minors available, though not in every area offered at the College.

I'm asking something you may have answered already with your friend who attended SEAS and minored in music..but then i realized a minor in music is usually with Julliard.
