I'm attending UCSD this fall and was wondering how hard it would be to double major in Molecular Biology and Literature, while minoring in another subject?

You would probably get a better response if you posted this in the UCSD forum, but in general if the minor is biology related or humanities related it shouldn’t be impossible.

“how hard it would be to double major in Molecular Biology and Literature while minoring in another subject”

Congrats on your acceptance to UCSD. On the one hand, if you have a strong interest in Molecular Biology and Literature and also find some third area of interest, great. These are your college years and you should absolutely take advantage of what UCSD offers.

On the other hand, you are posting in a premed forum. I assume you’re thinking med school. Med schools do not care what you major in. To my knowledge pursuing a double major/minor, and/or a major/minor does not get you many bonus points in eyes of med school. Med schools however do care a great deal about your overall GPA and GPA in science courses (bio, chem, physics, math). Besides fulfilling the reqs of two majors/minor, you’ll have to fit GE courses into your schedule as well. And although I’m a huge fan of a quarter system from my high school/college years way back in 60/70s, unless you stay on top of the potentially massive amount of material two majors/minor could include, your GPAs could suffer and damage, perhaps irreparably, your med school aspirations. In addition med schools expect to see ECs (volunteering, shadowing, research, etc) which could be difficult for you to get involved in considering the demands of a double major/minor and quarter system.

Is it doable? Probably. Will it be difficult? Yes. Talk to a counselor. Good luck.
