i'm a current senior in high school,
and ucla decisions haven't been released yet,

...assuming i even get in..
{ 2250, 800 800 800 750 720 730, 3.79/4.79, not much extracurrics except hospital volunteering and independent research }

how hard would it be to double major in mcd bio and spanish?
is this possible in 4 years? i will probably be taking classes in the summer every year (if that helps?)
i'm also pre-med..

my ap scores are:
bio 5
chem 5
spanish lang 4
calc ab 4
psych 5
art history 4
euro hist 5

currently taking [likely score]:
physics b [3/4]
span lit [4]
eng lit [5]
calc bc [4/5]
microecon [5]
compsci a [3/4]

would it be a smart idea to waive all these courses? or would i be at a disadvantage, going up against students who have already taken them?

thanks everyone!

lol u get no credit for sh-it except for spanish

i would recommend u major in spanish and then take the premed prereqs…but u better be good at spanish…spanish here is hard

4 on AP Spanish should place you in Spanish 6, which will be a big help.

If you get a 4 or 5 on English lit that will take care of the Writing I requirement.

Your score on Calc BC may pass you out of some math classes, but if you’re a pre-med then you need to take a full year of math anyway. UCLA won’t let you backtrack and take classes you’ve passed out of, so I’d recommend that you either don’t take the BC test or that you don’t try on it. That way you can take the full Math 3 series and a lot of it will be stuff you’ve seen before.

The rest of your AP classes will only get you a higher class standing, which will help with your enrollment times but not much else.

I agree with the Spanish major + pre-med classes thing. That’s basically like doing a Spanish major and a bio major but without the bio upper divs. And maybe your GPA would be higher, who knows.

hmmmmm thanks guys… it’s just that i’m legitimately interested in both fields, but if I were to choose, I would rather do a bio major with a spanish minor. what do you think of this?

Up to you.

If I’m correct then:

Spanish minor = 9 classes (in your case)
Bio major = 25 classes

Spanish major = 15 classes
Premed reqs = 16 classes

I sort of scanned through the requirements, so don’t quote me on this or anything.

Then in addition to that you’d have 5 GEs (all science GEs covered by the premed stuff, and one history GE covered by one of the Spanish requirements).

Either should be perfectly doable.

accepted!
thanks everyoneee. i guess what’s most important is knowing early on what i want to do. i can always decide to major in spanish after a year or so of planning to minor in it, right?
if that makes any sense…?
