I have been trying to find information on this topic but so far I can't find anything. Does UM do anything similar to the Wharton+College deal like at the University of Pennsylvania. I might be going to Michigan next fall and would like to know how difficult it would be to double major in Cell/Molecular Bio and some sort of business through Ross. I guess my real question is can you have a dual admission to the two schools? Thanks, much appreciated...

bump please...

when you're a student at the business school, you can pursue a dual degree through the engineering school, but you won't be able to the other way around (student at engineering, then pursue dual degree at the business school)

as far as i know the bio major that youre looking into is offered within ls&a.. so yes you can do both. even if you enter ross you start off at ls&a and still take courses at ls&a until graduation

You have to get into the bschool first, and then yes, you can double major in anything in LSA (like bio).

It will be tough, but if you can fit that all in, you're allowed to double major and minor.

Okay thanks, I am most likely going to apply to Medical school after undergraduate and I thought a business degree would be handy if I wanted to apply to a MD/MBA program.

There are quite a few people I know that are doing the BBA program for pre-med. In my opinion, that's overkill, but if that's how you want to have your undergraduate curriculum, then you can try it. I think you can always transfer to the LSA once you're in Ross, so if you don't like it, you can transfer. I heard many people who did do the BBA for pre-med eventually opted out of pre-med and ended up going business. The B school is overwhelmingly business related (obviously), and there is really no time to think about anything else once you're really into it.

By the way, you don't need a BBA to get an MBA, and there might not even be a clear advantage to having one.

Oh yeah, I forgot to mention that pre-med doesn't mean you have to concentrate in science, so you can still do a BBA/pre-med curriculum without a dual major.

My feeling about not majoring in a science field before medical is hesitant because I know you need a strong science background to succeed at the top of the class. I realize that to be admitted to Med school does not require a science degree, but I would feel more comfortable with a lot of advanced Biochem and Organic Chem under my belt. Thanks for the advice. I like the idea of completing a BBA with the AB, however, it sounds like coordinating that is a challenge.

Coordinating it will probably be very tough, especially since the B school pre-assigns all your classes on Wolverine Access (bleh).

Hopefully you'll be able to graduate within 4 years. You might have to take spring and summer classes. Remember to check with advisors to see what they have to say.
